Great news my hatching eggs arrived today and all air cells are attached, so no rolling or like last time scrambled. Some are a bit wiggly and some saddled but are in even better shape than the first ones I bought. :wee...this is becoming like the tales of... Erba's adventures with shipped eggs! 😂

Hey!!! That is fantastic!!! Good luck with the hatch!!!

@BDutch thanks to your question about seperating them I thought of a way to protect my one rooster that still has an intact comb. I moved the two hens that were in the fron right run into the back. They have colored rings on marking them as for sale. And the rooster moved into the front right run. It was time too... his comb was bloody but still good. He did not care for being alone. But he does enjoy the hens from my neighbor. He can't get to them but he can see them.
See how bloody his comb is?

Eggs just went into the incubator with five of my own, so the countdown starts now! ⏰

It's 21 weeks now and no sign of my pullets laying eggs yet, but should be starting pretty soon. Not that I need eggs or anything, but it is always exciting to get the first egg.

The rooster pens are coming along. The weather held last weekend and with some help of my son and Sunday afternoon from his friend, we were able to but the roof up. Still needs to be fastened more and screws here and there, but the difficult part is done.

:frow:frowI thought it might be nice to have a European thread to share our experiences and support each other when needed. I also like the idea of somewhere to ask about meds / products that we have access to that are different to the US and UK. I'm guessing even hatching eggs would possibly be doable within Europe!

Hi there. I am in the S of France in the Black Mts. not far from the Spanish border eastern side. I know there's lots of ckicken keepers around, but not English speaking, at least not that I know of. I'm hoping to get started in the Spring, so I want all ready, including supplies, and a chicken home of course.
I've been in this region for 20 years, and 15 before that near to Marseille.
I speak French, with an awful accent but I get by.
I hope I'm not alone here, any one else in Occitanie or nearby?
I'm probably going to get some red hens, they seem the local preferred breed, unless any one can give me a better idea??

Welcome! :welcome

Well, those red hens you are talking about are probably hybrids. Made to lay lots of eggs and be done within two or three years. I always root for a dual breed. You get eggs and meat. There are lots of beautiful french breeds. Bresse or Faverolles. and others.
Good luck with your chickens... which ever way you will decite!

Welcome to this thread of EU citizens. I hope you have a French passport by now so you can stay in France after the separation?
And yes, there are so many beautiful French breeds.

And Spanish: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Spanish_chicken_breeds
And in Europe we even have a lots more.

Dive into it and decide if you want something special, friendly chickens, or just chickens who lay abundantly. What is important to you?

On BYC you find lots of info over building coop and keeping a healthy flock.
