Congrats! A big egg for a first one, isnt it?
I don’t understand you’re concern s as bout the age. 21 weeks is quit normal for a first egg as far as I know.
Thanks...no it wasn't a large egg or the first time. It is actually nice and small... the way it's supposed to be... the picture just looks like it.
My concern is...the earlier they lay the faster they lose their fresh looking feathers. They call that "blooming" and for the show they need to look their best... you want your birds to be blooming which happens around the time they start laying. I have been trying to not to feed too rich of feed by diluting it a little with grains...but it didn't help. Otherwise I'd just be tickled about the first egg! I still got 2.5 months to the first show..... well... if it happens.

I’m tired. 3 rooster concerts this morning kept me awake. How come that I sleep through everything except noisy birds?

I just decided: Kwik, my friendly rooster has to go. This is probably the last time I ever try to keep a rooster.
I'm sorry you have to give him up! I love waking up to a rooster crowing. You don't think you could get used to it?

We are all packed an ready to go. Going to Switzerland for the weekend. My neighbor will take care of my chickens. The specialty club for Sulmtaler and Altsteirer is having their annual meeting there. And the head of the club is traveling with me... so I will have plenty of time to ask questions. :wee

Have a good and learn full time in 🇨🇭 !

I don’t think I can get used to it. We already closed the nearest window to muffle the sound a bit. This worked for a couple of weeks but he got louder and now he wakes me up and keeps me awake after his first call at about 5.30 , the second at 6.30 and third at 7.30 . It’s so annoying to fall into a sleep after counting sheep's for an hour and to hear him crow again just before Im completely out.

Thank you!! I hope we'll have a good time... and hopefully I will learn something new.

A friend of mine keeps her roosters locked up at night in a workshop or the basement. The roosters have gotten used to it and don't seem to mind. But that way they don't wake up the whole neighborhood. They sit in dog crates. Maybe that could be an option for you.

Switzerland was beautiful! But oh sooooo expensive!!! ouch!!
I picked up a few tips here and there. And during the drive was able to ask the head of the specialty club lots of questions.
Unfortunately the show close to me has been canceled due to corona. They cannot fulfill the requirements. I was so sad. I did sign up for Hannover though... and I might be able to show my animals in a neighboring town.
I also have decided that I will not continue breeding the white Sulmtaler. I had too many issues this year. Starting with feather picking. The white ones also have a different temperament than the wheaten Sulmtaler. I noticed that the white ones kept the wheaten ones away from the feed. Not good. I separated them and hopefully I can pep up their feed enough so they can make up for lost times.

I included some pictures from this past weekend.
