Anyone from Italy here? Well, I posted this thread in the Pests section, received no response, so maybe someone in Europe has used this herbal solution... I just bought 200ml today.

@chickengr do you have turkeys as well? How do they cope with the heat?
BTW how many turkeys per one male is ok as a ratio? I just sold 6 and I have more to sale but don't know what is best ratio male:females.

I am still in a war against the neighbors cats (after eating my Brahma chicks, they started with the frizzle chicks 😩), bought a trap and each morning I have a hedgehog in the trap! I only have 4 frizzle chicks now, so as of today mama hens and the chicks are in cages... Not happy..
BTW I am attaching a picture of our temperature 🙂

sorry for your loss. you need to make a small run for your chicks. a friend of mine made about 3x3 m, wire and a door, tin roof and it is walk in size. he puts 4 broodies with chicks in 4 corners and daytime they roam around together.

I have turkeys, 1 male and 2 females. they cope with heat fine. they just need some cooler place to hide, in my case they stay inside at the hottest hours. I have been told that turkey toms don't fight as roos do. not sure about the best ratio but 1 male can stay with 6-7 females for sure.

I got nine more chicks, from 10 eggs and they started hatching a day early, then the rest came yesterday, right on their due date. I could have hatched all 10, but I was clumsy and dented one, while transfering them into the hatcher. Had a pretty thin shell.. put it in anyway, because I was hoping it would still hatch, but it didn't. 🙁

I have another 16 eggs due on the 24th...

Congrats @Erba so cute!!!
Thin shells are a reason not to bother putting them in the incubator. Thin shells could be an inheritable trade. I have had some butterfingers and smashed eggs. What I did then is close the crack with wax. It worked just fine.

I have to tell you a story. I actually got to meet Robert Höck. For those who don't know him.. he does a lot of videos on youtube. He's got channels about chickens, plants fish. Lots of stuff. It was so cool.. and his place is just beautiful. Loved his garden and of course his chickens and sheep. OMG they are so adorable!!!

Congratulations @Erba for the chicks!
@chickengr I read - 1:10.
I had one of my broodies hatch 4 days premature, 2 chicks are out and running in the nest, she has another 8 eggs due in 4 days, so apparently some of the Marans/Olive green eggs that I bought were old. I hope the broody doesn't get up and hatches the remaining 8 eggs.

On a side note, I was finally able to get my water pump running this morning and now I have automated well water supply for my chicken. I will no longer worry about them being left without water at 44C. What a relief!
My next project is automatic feeder, so I was wondering if anyone has used the Chinese automatic chicken feeders that they sell on Alibaba?

I don't know what feeders they sell. There is something called a grampa feeder, it's pretty loud when they step off though. Here they also sell step on feeders like this.

I use a big dog bowl, but I might buy one of these. Because of mice and birds.

good for you! 44° is hot... for chickens and for humans. Glad temps don't seem to get this high this year in Germany.
I have not heard of this feeder from Alibaba. But I have not heard good things about Alibaba. So personally I would stay away from them.

I checked my girls today to see how they are coming along. It seems like the best looking hens have issues with their comb. I will check them again before I will sell them... just to be on the safe side. It really hurt to say "you are out". I will have to see how the others are developing in the next weeks.
I had plans on going to Hannover for the big show. I don't think I will anymore. I feel like my hens are just not good enough. The roosters seem to be doing well though

Just a few pictures of me while checking them out. (I checked the comb and waddles and their overall looks and then I put them in the cage so I can get a better look at them)
I also sold 2 white Sulmtaler hens to a friend who wanted some. Their legs are too long... one had a comb issue and the other one had an open tail... You can see that in the one picture.

Took some pictures of the boys today. They have grown so much lately... and added some color. Today the sunshine really made it all pop.
