@chickengr No poultry show in Bulgaria. There was one last weekend in Romania and one about 2 weeks ago in Slovakia/Slovenia - he wasn't sure. Apparently there are a couple of (obsessed 😄😄😄) Bulgarians who visit every poultry show in the region..
@Silkie Princess I would say 50% hatched, but I have none at the moment, as they didn't survive the cats and the predator birds. Bantams don't survive much in here...They were orange colour.

I have a lot of cockerals, let's just say too many at the moment. Problem is, they are not big enough to eat yet. Had one young one die. Found it in the run, but it was eaten beyond recognition, so don't know if it was male or female and two were taken by a hawk, also the young ones, the big ones were double his size. Also couldn't say what they were either, just the feathers left behind. I really need to see what I have left. The probem is there are so many of them running around, and it is hard to count!

Sometimes it makes more sense to butcher rooster even though they are not big enough yet. If they are too crowded it keeps all of them from growing well. Then they all eat and don't produce well and you loose that way too. Take some out...and allow the rest to grow. Also don't hatch too late in the year... especially rooster don't grow as well as the ones that hatch in early spring. I can tell the difference from the ones that hatched in March they are all grown and look great... while the ones from early May they still got lots of growing to do... size and feathers.
It was nice hearing from you again! How are you doing? I saw they got some bird flu cases down your way? Are your chickens in lockdown?

Been quiet here so here are some Bulgarian news 🙂
My broody hen took her 1 week old chicks outside on the snow yesterday... Both me and the chicks freaked out and I will be closing her in a cage today.

5/5 Australorps hatched yesterday in the incubator, I will be giving them to mama Silkie today. I didn't want Australorps but I was given eggs, so just as a joke I put them in the incubator.

First snow for most of my birds.. they are pondering if this is for eating, drinking or bathing...

@chickengr I forgot to tell you. There are almost daily busses from Athens to Plovdiv or Airport Plovdiv (both close to where I live). The busses leave from str.Akominatu 34-36 OR some from Platia Kairazkaki. I won't be hatching until March next year though as I am supposed to be in Spain in February and there won't be anyone to take care of the chicks.
Oh... Anybody from Spain here??

do you still have LF cochin cockerels/roos? a friend of mine might have a pair of silver lakenvelder available if the bus driver accepts live chickens from athens. they should grow a bit first as they are about 7 weeks old.

@Erba
We have a new member in our breeding club. He just moved in. He is breeding bantam Sussex. He is also a member of the specialty club (he is the treasurer of the south west part of the club). I just thought you'd like to see. Maybe if you need an address for a breeder I could ask him.

Is it just me, but I find it extremely entertaining to watch my turkeys skating on the ice...
@chickengr I will call the company after the holidays and will ask. I do have a LF pure Cochin, he is already crowing, very calm and more like a pet.. like all my birds.
Well, I will be on the TV on 25th, so
Merry Christmas to all in advance!!
