I am just so excited! I was able to sell 6 hens in the last 2 days. On Christmas Eve a family came and wanted to get 2 hens. One of their hens was killed by their dog. Not due to their fault but somebody elses. So I said Merry Christmas and gave them 3 hens for the price of 2.
Today I was able to sell 3 hens to a guy from the area.
Why am I so excited about selling hens? I still have 7 young hens for sale. In recent months I was not able to sell any. People asked about them but their first question was about lowering the price. I am not asking a lot so I said no. But the new season is about to start. I just got my dates for the Marek vaccinations for the chicks. I will need the space for the chicks. I would hate to butcher the hens. So here I am doing the happy dance!!! YAY!!!
Also , it's money that helps pay for feed... and I need less feed. And the hens have a good home... I have the breeding groups together already. And all the birds for sale together in one coop They were too crowded for my taste. Now there is more space. View attachment 2940241
Exactly!!! I pay 2 Euros more per bag than a year ago!people here also ask lower price. and feed got more expensive. electricity too.
@abpatchy , congratulations for the sales!
Feed and electricity here going up too. So me and a couple if friends (with chicken) are looking for lower cost feeds and if one of us finds something interesting immediately calls the others so inform them. For example about two weeks ago I found cheap rice, so I called the others and we both a lot together. Today one of the other guys found cheap beans and called me. I also found cheap Cockspur grass...
As for electricity - as if March this year my hot water is solar heated only. After New year I will be installing a photovoltaic system and will be transitioning to solar power supply.
Cockspur grass- they sell is as a grain...
Chicken love it!!!
Do you not have factories that produce rice in Greece? They will sell it cheaper if you buy it directly from the factory (that's what we do).
Do you mix the food yourself? Sounds interesting, at the moment I buy ready-made feed for my ducks, but mixing it myself seems interesting and maybe even cheaper. I also find it interesting to learn a bit more about their nutritional needs. This ensures that we are less dependent on suppliers and their stock.@abpatchy , congratulations for the sales!

Ideal that you switch to solar energy, in the climate here I think that is certainly a good option. I would also like to do that in the future.
