Tintin on his own now.

@abpatchy I wonder if its normal that Sulmtalers don’t roost. This is the first time I have a chick that doesn’t roost at all. Not during the day and not in the night.

He is almost 11 weeks old now. His mother finally abandoned him last Monday. Tintin stayed behind in the nest box, while his mother roosted with the others hens again.

The two broodies in one nestbox are not very careful in keeping the hatching eggs warm during the night. I found a cold egg besides the 2 ladies again. So the embryo might have stopped there. There was poop and a smell too. So yesterday I decided to get the 2 off the nest to eat, drink etc. And quickly clean it all out.
I laid the eggs in the clean nestbox next to theirs and when Ini mini returned she immediately sat on the eggs next door. I decided to try to give them both 5 eggs ( fake eggs too and keeping 4 incubator)
They are really comfortable now each in their own nest.

I have a black dutch bantam beauty as well. hoping for a black roo to hatch. there are 3 black chicks but too young to tell.

No, they do roost. But, keep in mind that my chicks grow up without adults around. He might feel a bit intimidated to join them. They might also not want him there. Maybe if he wasn't the only one he might be braver. It will change when he gets older. Don't worry!
He slept it a small coop with 2 nest boxes and this had an area with 2 small roosts tool. One roost is low 5-10 cm and one higher up (35-40 cm).

His momma and he never roosted there.

Today he was disbursing the broodies (to take an afternoon nap?) . Anyway, I expelled him and all other hens completely from the old prefab coop.

When I rebuild the coop I made an opening in it going to the extension where the larger roost are. In the extension is the auto pop door to the larger run.

Good view on the opening to the extension and the pop door.

How old are the chicks now? Can you see or guess their genders now ? …

I think you are right. Tintin is afraid of the hens. Since I expelled him from the nest-boxes with the broodies, he started to roost in red berry bush as far away from the bullies as possible.

Of course this will change when he becomes a more mature cockerel. He briefly tries to crow sometimes. About once a day around 9 am. 🕘❤️

Even though I like the looks and his attempts to crow, I put and add out for this guy. It seems there is at least one male chick in the new hatch. And I never ever can keep two roosters. For the 3 siblings growing up together I hope there is a better chance this small group will integrate without problems.

They also get a new larger coop (rebuild of a childrens playhouse) to avoid stress around sunset when they all seek a place to sleep.

The 3 bantam Amrock’s with the mama’s.

8 week old serama cockerel, son of Lady Gaga, named "Slick" by @GreenJay . If it was female, I'd keep him. I'm liking what my serama are producingView attachment 3877203

super cute!

my 2 aseel boys pecked one (of 2) pullet on the back of her head so hard that even after a week the wound didn't heal. do you think they tried to mate her or would they kill a female for some reason? I have a pekin duck with the "mating" wound that looks almost the same.

It depends. How old are the boys? If they are less than 6 months old, I'd suspect fighting instinct. If they are 8 months old or more, I'd suspect poor mating attempt. They are quite rough, especially as youngsters
