Well, I exaggerate slightly. Sunset isn’t until slightly before 3:30 PM during December. So it isn’t quite as bad. But, when it doesn’t snow (to have light reflection at least) or get at all sunny, it feels like eternal night.
Hence my comment on the awfulness of city darkness. No crisp snowy scenes to brighten the mood during short days. Just grey slush… I will be grateful to move back to the country.

I suppose its best to live in the same sort of conditions/climate where you grew up as a child.

But weeks of rain and cloudy weather doesn’t make me happy either. I love the sun. And I loved spending long vacations in Greece, S-France, and other Mediterranean countries.

The last decade this has changed bc if the climate changes, our climate has ‘improved’ with long spells of sunny weather. And in the midst of summer its often too hot in Mediterranean countries. So we dont plan to go far south in summer anymore. We started to go south in winter and early spring instead. And for summer vacations we go without reservation to where-ever the weather forecast says it’s nice.

not my case. I grew up in 7b zone, now I enjoy 9a. nothing is wrong with 40+ celsius, lol.

Up to 30-35 °C is okay for me. But I don’t like it higher. If the temps are higher I need a swimming pool or the see around the corner. Siesta and long evenings on top of that might make it work. 🏖️
But I prefer to do things, hikes, visits to special sites, with temps between 20 and 30 °C.

Btw, I had no idea what zone I’m in or what it actually means. I looked it up and its seems to be a US thing for cold (which plants can grow where you live). It's not an indication for sunshine or rain. Zone 9a is our coast zone.

when I lived in trieste, italy sometimes 35 c with humidity in the air were worse than 45 c without humidity.

@Maiahr are you still here?
I miss her too. A while ago she started a thread about euthanasing/ humane killing a sick chicken. I followed and responded bc this is something I really like to know if I have a chicken whos live becomes so miserable that its more humane to end it.
Many reactions followed about shooting and broomsticks.. 😤
When someone came up with a good solutions (link to article on killing with ether/starter fluid) I tagged her. But she didn’t respond.

In the Netherlands there is legal stuff regarding which ways are acceptable considering animal welfare. For the "normal" people like us the easiest way is cervical dislocation. That is only allowed for up to chickens weighing 3 kilograms or less when done by hand.

The only possibility to get a chicken into a deep sleep she will not come out off , with something I can buy legally, is with ether/starter fluid.

I’m not interested in other killing methods and don't like a discussion about slaughtering methods here.

do you eat chicken after culling or you just cull? I would not eat meat with any chemicals.

I don't butcher. friends do it for me. one of the reasons I started a farm is to provide (biological) food for me. I don't want to eat proteins that come from fly worms or similar.

recently I have bought yogurt with 10% fat. as it tasted really bad I read the label. fat didn't come from milk but from palm oil. I felt happy I have got goats and will have MY milk soon.

I see now my link is a bit botched and jumps to a random piece of text. My apologies for that. This list is not about how to slaughter animals, it's about how to legally put animals down. An example on this list is cattle, you are not allowed to slaughter cattle at all because of mad cow disease. You are allowed to put a cow out of her misery if there is no other choice, but legally only by captive bolt gun.

I myself have never heard of using starter fluid this way. And I see I kinda read over it in your previous post. If that works than that is great to hear! It technically isn't legally allowed to be used here for that purpose.
