@KingB . Getting hit by foxes is a very nasty thing because of the surplus killing.

But there are ways to avoid fox attacks . On a Belgium website they have a great drawing with thing you can do againt foxes and marters. I will look it up for you.*

In the articles section there is info against predators too.

p.s. I have a automatic pop door to let my chickens range in a reasonable safe (but not very safe ) run after sunrise. It worked great until now. I only had one casualty when the chickens where free ranging. A buzzard attack after 6 years.

Did you mean to tag me?
Not sure what you're on about..🤔

Thanks for the info anyway

I guess @BDutch was thinking about brexit.

anyway, this thread is about chickens in europe, not in european union.
Yes. You are right Chickengr. I was teasing. Thought you all would understand it was a joke. Of course England will be European in the future, just like Norway, Albania, Serbia and Switzerland.

Last week I only got 5 tiny eggs. And I even gave them away to my neighbour who took care of my flock while we where away for the weekend last week.

I want more tiny tastfull organic eggs!
My birds all have finished molting now. .. Yesterday I made a light 💡 in the coop with a timer to activate at least the younger chickens to lay a bit more. The light goes on at 7 am.

Last year I tried hemp seed bc on a Dutch informative livestock interactive news site they told it would stimulate laying in winter. But it didn’t help much (not noticeable).

Let’s see what this 1 1/2 hour of extra light will do this winter.

I am sure they will lay better with the light. Last year my purchased chickens did not lay at all. As do my older ones at the moment. After the molt and with the fading light there were no eggs. As I was preparing for spring and collecting hatching eggs I put up a light with a timer. Less than a week later I had the first egg from a younger (purchased) hen. Soon after the older ones joined as well. The light really works.
There is nothing as tasty as your own eggs. Knowing where they came from, what the chickens ate, how they live.
Good luck with the light!

The county next to us is enforcing confinement for poultry. There have been no cases as of yet... just those swans that they found in Hesse.. which is still relatively far away.
I am happy I got my rooster pens...otherwise I would have to butcher some animals if I have to lock them up. Can't keep 5 roosters in 4 coops...
Corona, bird flu... I am fed up!!
