I can answer your predator proofing questions!

If a coon can stick his grubby little hand through your fence, and he only needs one inch, your wire is too big. As for tearing off hardware cloth, that depends on how you fasten it.
If your birds arent within reach of the wall though?

Chickens are doofuses sometimes and get a. It to close. That raccoon will wait then strike. And I bet a raccoon is what tore of the head of your chicken. By reaching through the chicken wire. If a possum is getting in then I suggest finding out where because other predators will soon find that opening also.

Yeah the hen was within reach of the wall for sure. Hindsight.

I do plan to predator proof better. I'm just trying to get all the details first.

How do I stop a fox??
  1. 1606786510965.jpeg

Against foxes: 1.80 m high + 30 cm outward fencing or electric wire
  2. + 40 cm tiles or 50 cm deep hwc
  3. + Automatic pop door
  4. Against marters: 0.5” hwc an strong netting on top.

Rule of thumb. To stop a fox, you need to predator proof everything. Killing it, will only open up room for other predators to take the territory, and get near the chickens. Hardware cloth si great, it is pretty invincible, but it needs to be pared with something sturdy. I use a dog kennel set up for my run coop and wire tie the chicken wire, and hardware cloth to the fence so nothing can reach in. I also use predator deterrent lights on Amazon, to deter, but that alone will not stop an attack. Hope this helps!

This is exactly right. This is good advice on stopping predators.

“Swiper no swiping”
Whats the meaning of this? I didn’t know so i asked google:
It’s the most dumb command ever. I’m sure most of you have already watched dora the exlorer so you know who the fox is. dora simply asks swiper nicely to stop whatever he is doing. which is total BS cuz that is swipers job!!
