Pekin Duck Club!

Yes, I could see it but there is no way for the recipient to respond within the ovation.

So, you are very welcome and I am so happy that it appears that it was just thirsty ducklings. Nice to see a very caring duck person. There is so much to learn with ducklings. But my life is so much better with ducks in it. They are Number One on my calendar. They must be fed, watered, and all that. Room service must be done! My friends are used to me saying, I will come over after duck dooty. Or, I have to go now to get the ducks in before dark.

im so caring for them they make my life so much better I love watching them and seeing them grow I clean there cage everyday and there in the gest room next to me with a light my boyfriend thinks im crazy because I said that I was there mommy but he also loves them im happy I found this wed site and you to talk to now im stress free

Not sure how old our Pekin is...but it's call is slightly different from that of our Crested ducks. The tail feathers are straight, and it's quite big, but maybe it's a drake. What do ya'll think?

Is it a raspy call? Has he/she molted yet?

A low, quieter "quackquackquack", while my Crested are louder "QUACKQUACKQUACK!". Have not molted yet (we've only had them for a week, but we don't know how old they are). The Pekin was rescued by the previous owners...so even they didn't know how old S/he is.

Based off of the research we've done online regarding male & female calls, "Aflac" sounds like a male.

NOt necessarily... voice is the first indicator of it, by about 5-6wks you start hearing differing voices(altho i admit i starting hearing some quacking by 3-4wks). Mine are now over 6wks and have distinct voices.. i know i have some ducks(female) and at least 1 drake(raspy)

Also watch their tails! I've been told by many that a male will have a tail that curls up and the female will stay flat. Not sure what age this will begin but its definite sign. Can't wait to see what my 2 pekins are

Well I'm on week 2 of Pekin ducklings life and seriously in love with these little cuties! They seem very happy in their brooder, but have already been planning my outdoor setup for them and let me tell you they will be spoiled! I've decided that a simple house and run will not be good... They are going to have their own habitat. Large enough to run around in and fit a nice duck pool. I will add many plants and bushes for shade and grazing. gotta love having a whole 10 acres of land to work with!

Any suggestions on plants that are safe for ducks??

Interesting about the drakes. Is there a reason you don't put them up at night?

No, they have always free ranged night and day. When they were young I had them in a pen, when they discovered their freedom they would avoid the pen and house at night. If I let the hens free range at night; I have to search for their eggs. Predators have never bothered our ducks, I guess they find the chickens easier targets. I know that it is a risk.
