Aurora....who is that?

That's Sweet Pea. She has some shiney new feathers in. She was squatting for the boys last night and I took notice. If she really does have a penciled Gene, then she may be Phil and Lil's mom, not Pebbles. I was told that she was nothing red x wild turkey but I'm starting to wonder now...

Close ups of extended wings and clear pictures of spread fan would be ideal for assessment. Maybe looks like she could be. B1b split with Pnpn expresses very faintly.

I'll see what I can do and try to get a few better pictures.

Probably total overkill with the pictures but I tried to get close ups and both wings. She was NOT happy about it or cooperative.

That's super hard. I don't see anything that is really indicative of Pnpn. I would say she is maybe split b1b tho, I think I see some merged barring on her wings. Normally a b1b Pnpn would have some slight angles on the fan pattern with more spotting, instead of the typical straight horizontal bars. But she does have some extra spottiness. Also Pnpn have slight pattern spotting on wing coverts. I'll search for a pic. I would guess Phil and lil came from her and not pebbles.

Ok....let's say Sweet Pea is carrying the pencilled gene....does that mean the father of Phil & Lil would also have to have the gene? And, assuming she is our mystery bird, she would produce Pencilled poults bred to Mister. If she's squatting....I'd lock her & Mister in the honeymoon suite!!!

Yeah I'm really confused on how they came about. They're a mystery. Usually to get the quality of pencilling I would expect parents to be pnpn over pnpn or pnpn over Pnpn. Mister over lil will result in some super beauties.

I'm just completely bemused. Again...yet another question...so this wasn't Sweet Peas first breeding season was it? Yet this is the first season to have the Pencilled poults show up. So who was the difference? Romeo & Cuddles? Who participated in the reindeer games this year, but not in previous years. May be something to consider. I feel like I'm playing the game "Clue".... it was Col. Mustard!!
