Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

Is it really only 7:30?, feel like I lived a lifetime since I woke up. Many of our birds did not get cooped last night, LGD took cover from the storm in the garage and we were hit hard by a predator. I'm pretty shook. Trying to focus on being thankful for the chooks that are still here, but still feel like crud.

If you need any of what I got just give a holler

Hmmm, maybe I'm wrong. Then again I'm going off of what I've read and what my dad remembers from the family farm 40 some years ago. So far the only one crowing at all is one BCM, no one else has even begun trying yet. He's just about clockwork already though right around 0430, 0730 and 1930 everyday so far. He was a little early last night with the storms though.

Hopefully everyone made it through the storms safely, and with minimal damage.

Only 3 times a day?? I wish! Mine crow just to hear themselves crow! Or to announce I'm walking towards the coop, or to warn people out of the yard, or because the wind is blowing, or to tell the others that I brought water, food, treats. Or like I said...just to hear themselves crow.

My big free range boy is on the kitchen porch right now announcing that it's past breakfast time...LOL He starts anywhere between 7:30 & 8 depending on the weather just to let us know he's up & waiting on his food.
There are three neighbors in my valley with roosters, plus mine. They have a crowing contest every day, all day lol. Pretty amazing until it gets annoying.

He just made me out to be a liar... he decided to crow again as I was walking over from my parents'. I had to let them know to keep an eye out when they go to leave, most of the chicks have been expanding their range.

I have noticed he will crow longer and louder if I'm running late with opening the run or getting breakfast around. He's such a sweetie though, at least compared to all the other BCMs.

What do you mean by broker? I thought they hatched their own?

Is MPC bad? I plan to order from them next spring (once I figure out what my current pullets ARE, exactly), so I don't want to mess up :O

I think that adamf4 was considering them because they ship as little as 3 chicks.

No, I'm not saying they're bad. Only that they are a broker. When you place an order, they in turn place the order with someone else who then ships your order. You might find better pricing or have better control over your order by dealing directly with the actual hatchery or breeder.

Has anyone bought from M & B Farview farms? I know Sally is close to them. I'm planning on getting some guineas before too long (like the end of July or sometime in Aug) and they have some keets a few weeks old for about $10 each. Is that about right for keets?
I just found about 2 dozen more attached ticks when I checked the birds I could catch. Guess I'll be doing tick checks after roost time from now on. So that means I now have to check Gavin, the dogs, cats and now the birds every night. Oh joy...

Guess I'll be picking up some Sevin dust or some more natural based yard and kennel spray.

Oh Blarney, I'm so sorry for your loss. :(

Oh, okay got it. I wasn't sure if a broker in the chicken world had a worse connotation then usual.

And Blarney- so sorry for your loss :(
