My blue silkie thinks it's a good time to go broody. I kick her out of the coop and take her egg away and the next day or so she lays another egg and sits again. She lays on nothing till she lays another egg. I don't think the other 2 silkies have started to lay yet. She is a good momma. She is the one that started to lay eggs and laid for about 10 days and went broody. She raised her chicks and again laid about 8 eggs and went broody again lol. Silly silkies, gotta love them!

Update on my chicken: she is still looking poofy and not doing too much. She must have eaten a bit because I felt her crop and it had a nice ball in it. (Unless that's a sign of an impacted crop?). I felt one of my other hens, and it felt the same. I also did see the sick hen drinking some water, so that was a good sign. My mother's memorial service is tomorrow. If my chicken is still sick tomorrow afternoon, I will set up chicken I.c.u. in the living room, especially because it's going to be so cold.

I've started plotting to fire up the incubator again. The garage brooder got empty again after this weekend so obviously, I had to put something in it again lol. My new Marans roo is getting picked on pretty good by the flock so I decide, I'll hatch out some marans babies. 1. I can see how dark of an egg color he carries, 2. I can see how well the babies grow out from him and how their color is, and 3. If he's never accepted into the flock, one of his sons can replace him since it's easier to integrate a young cockerel than an adult. I have my two Marans ladies out there in the brooder now. As soon as their eggs are infertile, I'll add Tucker then work on collecting to hatch :) maybe I'll be able join the new years hatch along with them :)

ETA: if anyone is interested in a sweet heart of a Marans rooster, Tucker will probably be looking for a home eventually. He's only 6 months old right now.

I am going to tell you guys something that I am sure you never knew! Are you ready? You suuure? Okay! Ducks swim! Yup! It is true! So the next time you pick up your duck, and he has a wet chest, don't worry about his health, and the terrible effects of sleeping on wet straw (they do like to lay by the water bowl, but the rest of the pen is dry). He is only wet because he has been swimming. That would explain why the water in the bowl was mostly covered in ice, but there was a spot that I now realize was where a duck foot splashed through (and I am now laughing as I think about how he must have freaked when he fell through the ice!

Okay, so after that great realization... I was going to bring water jugs down to the coop, but I knew I had water down there. "You'll need more" I thought. Naaaah! Well, the jugs were frozen, the bowls were frozen. You know that hanging water was frozen. Ugh! It is that time again!

My neighbor has a deer fenced in his yard. I always wonder when he will "warm her up".
