If you don’t know Devil Dogs, it’s not so funny. Maybe it’s not funny regardless. I’m sharing anyway. :tongue 9E14B586-26E1-4A03-AFE1-1356B359B71C.jpeg
They hid in the box while I was replacing the bedding.

We are hatching under broodies this week. Standard chicken hen hatched Silkie chicks (not sure why my silkies are not broody) Runner ducks hatched mixed breed ducklings, and a muskovy hen is set to hatch her own eggs tomorrow. Here are a few pics of the ducklings.

I just cleaned and disinfected my brooder and chick feeders yesterday. My son is running around and is so excited for the chicks too. He even has names picked for them. :love
I love it! So far our potential names are:

2 White Cochins- Smarshmallow and Pshhhhht (my MIL calls rediwhip whipped cream pshhhhht so my 19 year old suggested that for a big white chicken)

1 white crested black Polish-Audrey Hepburn

1 buff laced Polish-Kathryn Nikoli (the 2 year old's favorite podcaster)

2 cookies and cream-Baby Calf and Cow

Additional names not set to specific breeds:
Bob Witersheim (audio engineer for the podcast the 2 year old likes)
Flower Day at the Market (podcast episode title)
Bicycle Shop (also an episode title)

We have 23 chicks coming so names will be entertaining us for a few weeks probably.

I need to send the oldest to town for starter feed. The brooder is clean and ready. I am excited to be back in the chicken game!

Yardmom-what cuties!!! I am not sure there is anything much cuter than a baby duck!

Very cute names! When my son was 2y old, he named the chickens Ruff-Ruff and Bear. I tried to explain to him that our chickens are girls, but he just insisted to call her Bear.

Last year, I tried to get a Houdan, but she didn't survive shipping. I found out later that Houdans often die during shipping. It's so sad, since Meyer's Houdans have great personalities. As a Houdan mix, cookies and cream seems very similar to Houdan but survive shipping better. Good luck with your babies! Please post pictures after you get them.

So, I have 11 goslings of various ages now. 4 are about 10 days old and they crowd around my hand and nibble at my fingers. They have even taught the 2 shetland ducklings in the same brooder to do that trick! Positive influence from the goslings.
Glen at Sand Hill Preservation Center loves the Pilgrim goslings. He says they are the friendliest goslings he has ever raised - and that means something from a teacher who uses chinese goslings in his classroom to show how baby birds imprint of people.
I know I need to part with some of these - but they all like me and I can't just send them away . . .

Awwwwwe! Ok. Yeah. That is pretty darn cute! My only experience is with Canada Geese and my neighbor's goose that both attack my car on my way to work. The one day there was a big goose, an Australian shepherd and a goat all walking up the middle of the road like some kind of feel good kids' novel about unlikely friends. Goose went after my car good that day! I must have interrupted something important.
