did it dip when you added the eggs? that is normal, try to keep it as steady as possible, I do 100 and then down to 99 for hatch. no thermostat? It is well worth the 13 bucks to get one if you dont, temps are sOOOO hard to regulate! You had calibrated thermometers. So many people me for help too late in the hatch and I feel bad that they have such disapointment and so many dead chicks. in my signature is the hatching 101 article and my others, there are some VERY important things to know to have a successful hatch. Most troubled that ask for my help in the end are set ups without thermostats and uncalibrated thermometers.
Very elementary setup but temp was at 101 when they went in and humidity was 32. Humidity is now up to 58(!) and temp dipped quick now back up to 99ish. Should I worry?
What eggies did you set? your own? I cant wait to see them hatch!!
Sorry sally and chad, I wanted to check up on everyone last night but ...I crashed after a few drinks(It was only 2 )....
No sally she is not a banty but has always been a small one, she was from a hatch that 8 out of 12 hatched, the people I hatched for left her behind because she was smaller even then..as you can see she was just fine, only small. (she was brooded with quail, that's how small she hatched )..
and you guys really are helping me out by giving these birds good homes.....i am over worked and extremely tired I just can not keep up with everything...and there's also been talk of finally making the move to the farm this summer.....seems like a perfect time to downsize and decide what I really want to do...
Sally please let others know how things go with that girl,,,,there's plenty more that could use homes...she have a name yet ??

Wing- A while back you posted a pic of a beautiful blue orp for my Lav. roo. She is gorgeous, and I would've taken her, but I worry about introducing one lone chicken into the flock. I have some cranky hens that would terrorize her, I'm sure. I wish I could help you out, too!

I have two comments though.... just trying to be helpful!
1st is the humidity in the brooder, dont worry about that as thats an incubator worry not a brooder worry.
2nd if you end up having temp spikes or ALOT of variation with that hot water heater thermostat because it READS radiant heat NOT ambiant... I wrote about three kinds of thermostats in this article, it will explain them if you dont know that is and the first one is cheaper than a hot water heater one. https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/incubator-incubator mind you this was written for an incubator.....

YES you NEED ONE!
Thermostats are easy to install!
What is a thermostat and why do I need one? A Thermostat is a temperature-sensitive switch that controls space conditioning, in this case heat! When the temperature drops below the thermostat setting, the switch moves to the "on" position, and your heat source runs to warm the air to the setting you selected and then shuts the heat source off when temp is achieved. Thermostats can regulate ambient (area temps) or radiant heat (at heat source) and some even have a probe.
Steady Temperatures are EXTREMELY important during incubation!

DIGITAL Thermostat
GREAT thermostat and it’s cheap, about $14. And it includes a probe that you will set at the level of your eggs in the incubator. You can find them here: Digital Thermometers Digital Thermostat and Solid State Relay Wiring Diagram found here Wiring Diagram Video No matter if yourDigital Thermostat is 12Volt DC, 110Volt AC, or 220Volt AC; you will still need the SS Relay and an AC/DC Inverter. The wiring scenario is still the same.
WAFER Thermostat
GREAT thermostat and it’s about $24. Make sure you get the “Assembly” and not just the wafers (see pic.) Wafer thermostats are the most used in incubators because they read the temperature which surrounds your eggs, not just the heat coming directly off a light or heater.

Above you will notice that an extension cord is cut through for wiring the thermostat and lamps and is the only input of electric to this unit. Below you can see the fan plug is then plugged into the extension cord.
HOT WATER HEATER Thermostat
DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME with a hot water heater thermostat!
These have a lot of variance in temperature since it reads RADIANT heat directly from the light bulb or heat source. When we installed ours it was almost touching the light bulb and we STILL had over a 2 degree variance in temps. HOWEVER, IF you ALREADY purchased a hot water thermostat here is the diagram to install it. REMEMBER the closer to the heat source the less variance you will have with this type. You will have to keep adjusting the unit closer and closer to the bulb until you have reached the best temps with as little variance as possible. AGAIN, PURCHASE one of the other two Thermostats as they are well worth it!

Not yet!! I think Harmony said Sprinkles??? I was gonna ask if she had a name? I forget if you said she is laying! My Blue Roos already dancing to her, she is free in the breeder shed. so he is a tad upsed to be locked in his pen! LOL I have a small one from heather that STILL has no feathers and is 1/4 size of the others. Tiny..... is his name.
