Over the years I've come to decide that family is an accident of birth that I can't be blamed for.... but that doesn't mean I need to put up with BS from them either. Although there are times I let minor things go for the sake of peace and quiet there are also many times I will speak my mind because it is better for MY peace of mind. The majority of the folks I actually consider my 'family' aren't related to me by blood, they are the family of my heart.... once I realized that I was much better able to handle the BS. I also found that family will quickly realize how much they can or can't get away with and will push that to the limit. If you set the limits more strictly they have no choice but to adjust.
