You weren't being rude. I think it's great that people know what breeds are right for them rather than getting something that they can't live with. I can't get any with head feathers, silkies polish etc. they get picked off like tic tacs at my house! Knowledge is power.

Personally, I'll hatch anything, but experience has taught me what to keep & what to sell. Some birds just don't fit with my set up & management style.

exactly what the 2 of you said,,, I did not take offense to the question,,,,,,I also have breeds that I will not keep,,,,mainly polish or anything with a large cress.......that is like baiting the hawks for me, they just do not last long enough to lay an egg..

I also can not keep SLW roosters,,, hubby had a bad experience with one and now hates all of them,,,, I do not think it is fair to him if he feels like he has to tip toe everytime he walks into the pen..

just had an interesting conversation with a co worker,,,they are headed to the dragon tomorrow in search of pheasant meat,,, when they told me what they were willing to pay, I was floored,,,,they said it is a delicasy.....welll when I was growing up that kind of meat only cost you the price of the lead,,,,,,,,how times change.....can you even find wild pheasant in pa anymore..???

by the way, I would love to have a pheasant pen, just do not see much of a market for it.....they are beautiful birds though....
 
I've heard a lot of "pheasant" in the restaurants is really guinea, especially the french variety that grows fast and large. I eat pheasant occasionally, but prefer chicken or duck. I don't know why some people pay premium prices for some things, but to each his own. I know people who wouldn't eat oysters, even if they were free, but I love them.

I want ornamental pheasants someday, but never to eat, a male golden or lady amhearst is just gorgeous, IMO.

Growing up there was a pheasant farm about a mile from me. They catered to the restaurants in nyc. No longer there, but when I was a kid, the escapees naturalized and made great hunting. They used to breed naturally, but changes in farming practices (primarily early hay cutting and less fence rows) and predators pretty much did them in. Still see some on occasion, and I live no where near game lands.
 
I know I should know this...But I am tring to figure out what I want to add to my flock this spring since I lost a few this winter I have some room...I know I want to EE cause they lay blue and green eggs....Which Hens lay the Chocolate eggs?
