I can say I am almost envious with all this egg talk. But my layers are just 5 1/2 weeks old and I still have to get the layer coop and run done so I can move them from the chicken tractor that I use for my CX meaties. I have 24 CX that are 3 weeks today (and bigger than my layers) that need out of the brooder soon! Looks like a chance of rain the rest of the week that will put a damper (pun intended) on things. Getting a chicken back log going on here.![]()

Hey, I have a question for you all. I got 25 CX meaties 3 weeks ago and one of them is definitely a runt. I actually have her in a separate brooder as the others were literally walking all over her.
I was going to cull the runt, but with an outcryfrom my kids and some friends, I’m going to give her a chance.
It does seem kinda weird to go through extraordinary steps to save the life of a chick that in 5 weeks could be in my freezer. So my plan is to put her in with the layers soon if they will have her.![]()
Does that sound crazy?![]()
Thanks Fisher lady for the encouragement.
I am really concerned that the runt is really developmentally challenged. It constantly is trying to go under its hatch mates like it would a mother hen. Here is a picture showing the difference in size: (well I tried to upload a photo but kept getting an error)
And sounds like a good time at Cabelas. I can easily kill a day everytime I go there.
We have a question. This is our first incubator hatch. The chick hatched at 10:30 this morning, 12 hours later & it still can't stand on its legs. Is this normal?

Hm... did it take take a long time from pip to hatch?
