I recently returned after being away from chickens for a few years . I recently bought my own farm, no more relocating. I bought a few chickens last year, but have more coming. I’m trying this year to put together some good breeding stock.

What breeds are you looking to get this year?

I working on Ameraucanas precisely blue, blacks and hoping to get started on whites. I used to own some beautiful whites and miss them(snow bird and Jack)

I love Ameraucanas too. I have Blacks and Lavenders from John Blehm. The blacks are especially fine birds. If you are interested in eggs or chicks let me know.

You can try putting him in a cup with some paper towels in the bottom to help him gain some strength in his legs.

No. If a hen, she will be all black with Copper in her hackles. If a roo, he will be all black with Copper hackles and copper saddle feathers. I'll find you some pictures later on

Okay then I would start them on an antibiotic. It’s sounds septic to me. Anyway if you can get some fluids in them too.

Help! Yesterday I noticed one of our chickens on a nesting box, acting sleepy, lethargic. I left her alone until night and saw she was still the same. I suspected she might be egg bound as she was not walking at all, so I gave her a warm bath for 30 mins, tried to feel for an egg, but felt nothing. Ended up putting her in a dog cage in my room so she can stay warm. Today she seems to be having a hard time breathing. Breathing with her mouth open. What do I do for her now?

What are her wattles/comb looking like? dark, swollen? spots?
Any discharge?..gosh I hate that word-nasty...anyway,
wheezing?
has she tried to move at all? Good work moving her from the others...
If she will, try to get some electrolytes into her..maybe even apply VetRX on her beak & chest area...just throwing some easy, non-invasive ideas out there.
Keep checking on the egg issue also, you just never know.
When our girls get any inclination of resp.-issue, the vetRX goes on first..that has done it 99.9% of the time. Most times these issues come up when temps. fluctuate too quickly either way, Stress...
