Penta ~ This is WHAT A BROODER that is too small looks like!!! Since I am on light duty (ugg) I need to enlist hubby to make a HUGE brooder out of anything he can find tomorrow!!
LOL!! They are so cute! My son goes...awwww....LOL!!
when i checked a few years ago I was told I could sell off the property that they were raised on as long as meat was picked up by the person that was going to consume it, i can not carry it off the property to sell it, that is where all the above comes in, there's also a limit to how many I can sell, I think it is 1000, but I don't remember for sure.
as far as eggs, I hear lots of different things, I do sell at a local store, I have to put them in plain cartons with a sticker of my name, address and phone number....
before anyone sells meat you really should check with your local area, I would imagine the whole state is the same but you never know.

A room like that is in the future plans, but I am just not sure if I want to go thru all the inspections and paperwork.
Yeah, we have to do the label thing also with our eggs. That shouldn't be a problem. I'm already starting to get people who want them, and my chick-dren haven't even birthed themselves yet..LOL!!! Ugh, all the legal B.S. Gotta love it!

Okay....SOOOOOO.....I'm FINISHED with my brooder!!! I am super stoked as to how it looks (Sally) LOL!! I even made a built in feeder so the little guys and girls don't knock over the food all the time! I am going to do one with the water also, but I don't know what materials to make it with....oh never mind I just figured it out as I was writing my sentence. LOL!!

Ok. Either way...Wanna See it?!?!

TAA DAAHHHH!!!!!

Here is the feeder. The funnel comes out so I can use it for other things. I don't know how I feel about this as I can buy another one at the dollar store...(repurposing the funnel was DH's idea....enough said.

And the far away view. I can't wait to see those little babies in there!! I'll tell you one thing. It's heavy as heck!

Question...Should I have included roosting poles (or whatever they are called...I'm getting a brain fart.) Also I am not going to be able to run electric out to the coop. So should I still keep them in the brooder after 8 weeks??

Yes there is a color that is blue partridge.

Okay................my hatch, 7 went into lock down. One pipped at the wrong end, by the time I noticed it, it had died :-( One was fully developed, buy didn't absorb the yolk, so died around 18??? So I have 5 very cute mottled cochins, 3 blue and 2 black! I will get picks tomorrow. They are sooooooooooooooo cute!!!!!!!!
awww will be lookn for them!!

Quote: Totally cool! I sure could use it about yesterday!! LOL did you wire or plexi the front where u have latice? Remember to keep them draft free on the bottom, and a garage floor can get chilled, thats why I am asking, just want to make sure u used something solid like glass or plexi till they get bigger. A chick can easily die if you dont keep them between 95-100 the first few days and a draft can kill a chick as well as a full grown chicken.

I have hardware cloth in front of the lattice (kind of did double duty.) LOL! My garage is sealed tightly and insulated even in the cold, so it's not drafty, only when the car pulls in, but that's about it. Compared to my last house and the garage doors moved in the wind and it was colder than you know what in there. LOL! If I have to flip the brooder around to the lattice is not exposed, that's okay also. There is 3 foot of concrete from the ground up, then it's drywall, so I could turn it around to fix if it's too cold. I am going to set up the lights tomorrow and let them run with a thermometer and see how it holds the temp. I tried to put as much in front of the open spaces so that not TOO much draft got in. I may look into plexiglass or something of that nature now that you mention it. I also have the 250W red heat bulbs. I have 2 of them, so I think I may be okay. We shall see! :) I smell an experiment!

pentamom....i would set everything up with bedding and all, run the lights for awhile and see how much temperature fluctuates from day to night, check temps in different spots also to look for drafts....and WOW that is one clean garage.

Sally check with your insurance company, we have farm insurance so it covers different things than a regular homeowners insurance, you would have an excuse to add all kinds of pets, you need them for a petting zoo.

blarney, what is your general location,,,,,i would love to see some of the goats, maybe i can talk hubby into a roadtrip with a load of straw.

And I forgot, remember that silkie broody that I could not break, I broke down and gave her eggs awhile back, but didn't pay much attention since she was always off the nest when I checked so I figured they would not hatch, well i went late last night to check on everyone with a flashlight and she has 2 chicks that were not there 2 hours earlier, need to find time today to seperate her.

What kind of bedding do you suggest?? I was trying to find what I should put there and couldn't. Pine shavings??

And LOL! I have a MAJOR case of OCD and I hate a cluttered garage. Since the house was a new construction it didn't come with a shed. So the bikes and crap that ARE in the garge drive me crazy. LOL!
