"People like you" feedstore rant

There are good TSC stores and there are bad ones. The one near me in Piney Flats Tn. is a very good one imho. While the staff may not be the most knowledgeable and they do run out of things occasionally I've never seen dead or chicks in poor health. The worst I've seen is when the little cretins have filled their waterer with wood chips. The manager there would never say something like that to a customer. But if he did I'd ask him if he was aware how much money that I spend there each year. It isn't tens of thousands but it is quite a bit more than the cost of 5 maltreated chicks.

I would certainly call the corporate headquarters and talk to someone in public relations. I would also not hesitate to post the store where this occurred. To me this isn't necessarily about them being rude more it is about providing a good healthy environment for stock that they are selling.

to you for taking in these little ones so they didn't get trompled on by turkey feet. I am so sorry they passed, but at least they went peacefully.... and a huge

to the feed store owner for being a butt head.

That was nice of you to try and save them. At least they didn't die from being crushed.
There are good TSC stores out there. Mine has several tanks each labeled with what is in them and they do not mix chicks, turkeys, and ducks they each have their own tank. Though I did notice last weekend that they had put up corral panels around them. Apparentlly people can't read the 20 signs they have up about "PLEASE DO NOT TOUCH OR PICK UP CHICKS, DUCKS, AND TURKEYS"

Same at ours. The TSC employee said some kids were picking them up and dropping them for fun. Poor things. It was also amusing to watch her acrobatics through the steel panels to get me my 6 GLW pullets.

One of mine drowned at home

The 2 TSCs near me are pretty good. I haven't seen sick chicks hang out long. They usually take them out of the brooders if there is a problem. They are nt the most knowledgable people, but their chicks I bought have always done well for me. Brooders are clean and people are friendly enough.

I have a friend that works for Runnings in Minnesota. She said that if chicks are sick or die the hatchery credits them or adds that number into their next order, so if thats the case for TSC then they aren't really out any money just out the profits. I know the hatchery I use will replace chicks or refund your money. They may or may not have made a mistake with the Cocci vaccine on my last order, but they are relacing all 25 even though I only lost eleven. They also generally send you a few extra chicks when you order larger amounts. Also you should keep an eye on those poor turkeys because if the chicks died from disease they will definantely catch it. Chickens and turkeys are not recommended to be reared even near each other. I think they recommend 75 feet seperation, but prefer not even on the same farm. I keep mine on the other side of my farm from my chickens and still worry. My parents used to try to keep them apart and raised at seperate times, but we always ended up treating the turkeys with anibiotics.

I am very happy we do not have a TSC near us. All our feed stores are mom and pop places, individually owned, and if you want something, they order it. Of course, I can always order my own chicks, but if someone wants just a few, go place your order at the feed store. I am just as happy that I have never seen poorly treated birds at any feed store here I have frequented.

With all the horror stories I read about TSC, will the corporate office even care?

They get credit for a loss, sold or not. Either refund or paid out by the supplier, or they add more chicks to the next ship. Depends on the store and supplier I think.

Report it up the chain of command, TSC will work to clean up a store if there are enough complaints. Had you not said it was TSC, I'd have thought you'd been at our local mom and pop feed store. But you'd have had to pay full price for the chicks.

I'm glad you took the chicks home so that they have some love and peace before they go. I agree, send up a complaint about this guy and if you can find another feed store, that would be a good idea, too. Even if he felt the way he did, he should have kept his mouth shut.
