After my conversation with them, if they have ANY smarts at all, they will say no.

Not really a compliment unless they ASK for permission and credit FV for their photos.

And playing devils advocate is sometimes called trolling here at BYC...not a good idea for future posts.

Yesterday I saw an ad on our local CL that uses a pic from John Blehm's website, it's a pic of his bantam Lavenders. Granted they are selling chicks from his line, and I have no idea if they asked his permission or not, but I was sure surprised to see it...

I went on and tried to report the listing, but the options they give you don't fit for stealing photos / misrepresentation...what did you guys choose from the pull down menus?

Brindle, thanks for making this thread. Carole has great birds and is a very nice person to deal with. She has notified the seller and ebay about a week ago and neither has done anything about the situation.

I sent them a message as well, nothing grinds my gears like folks trying to profit from someone else's hard work.

You know what does make me happy though? BYCers backing up other BYCers. You guys are the greatest.

ETA: Side benefit of this thread? Being introduced to Fowl Vision's awesome blog! Everybody should check it out, its a great read!

It is indeed a complement to have photos of birds so nice that people feel the need to steal them for their own advertisements. However, it is still theft, unethical and false advertising.

Since I buy eggs off of ebay occasionally, I really take exception to this kind of advertising. The seller said "nowhere does it say those are pictures of my birds" - well, nowhere does it say they are NOT! It is implied by the seller they are pictures of his birds. It is dishonest. Talk about buyer beware!

sorry if it comes across that way... note I did say I dont agree with the behavior. I do not troll (atleast not intentionally) and hadnt even considered asking permission as I wouldnt use someone elses pics to begin with

BUT thanks for the advice I will remember it as I am not exactly a "forum savvy" person and have trouble even uploading my own pics (heck I needed a mod to tell me how to upload my avatar
