Does your spouse or SO call members of the opposite sex by pet names.....such as baby, sweetheart, dear, honey...etc? Meaning people outside your home, family and close friends.

If so, does it bother you or is it so commonplace these days that it really doesn't mean anything? Or do you do it and does it bother your spouse or SO?

I call Ken honey and he calls me Debi

I call him poo poo brain and he calls me krissy weewee head or pooper scooper. I love it when he calls me pooper scooper, as ridiculous as that sounds. We started going out back in high school, which may explain the less than mature choice in pet names.

Wait, I misread your post, sorry. But yeah, the krissy wee wee head has extended to my friends, which does irritate my SO. He claims it's his and they have no right to it. And I heard some guy call him poo poo brain in Hastings a few months back . . . it shocked me, to say the least, much more than if a girl had called him that.

Sun, it ticks me off pretty badly when someone my own age (under 50) calls me "honey", or "hon" or "dear". I can take it from old folk, but from people my own age, it's just insulting and condescending.

I never do that to anybody else. Except I do call my girlfriends "Dollface"...

My dd's tumbling coach calls everyone babe. But, I think he's cute, so it doesn't bother me. I confess, I actually find it amusing

Back in high school, our theatre teacher called everyone babe too - I didn't think he was cute, so it just rolled off my back, LOL!

I am not a fan of it either and I don't do it, except with hubby sometimes, but never another guy. I don't want to take the chance of offending someone.
