***PICS*** Hen Stuck in Molt & Sick (Yellow Skin, Orange Comb and Wattles)

Did Prissy's skin turn yellow as well? Hmmm...we did have EXTREME HEAT this summer. Very interesting reading. She doesn't wheez or anything, but I see yours didn't either. The oxine is definitely worth a shot! Does it say on the bottle the ratio of oxine and water for the humidifier? Either way, I'll figure it out. Poor girl is awfully thin and scraggly. She seems content right now, though. Ugh...I just don't know what to do. Thank you so much, LOVEIGEE.

New Pic - She looks like she has more color, but it could just be wishful thinking on my part.

Her comb and wattles have more color than Prissy's. Prissy was very anemic looking. And I believe her skin was light pink.....legs of course were yellow. I just wish I knew how to save yours....I couldn't save mine and it was so sad to watch....I kept thinking I could help her, but everything I tried didn't work. Just pull up oxine on the search engine and you can find the amount there......I really never imagined it was a respiratory thing since no symptoms, but like I said her immune system was very weak, so it allowed it to jump on her. I'm pulling for her!

This EXACT thing happened to my silver laced hen!!! Never figured out what happened to cause it... She was like this for 2.5 years and sadly died a month ago for unknown reasons...

She would molt but her feathers came back weird like this. I was away when she became ill. My parents took care of her. I think she had an upper respiratory infection and stayed inside for around 2-3 weeks. I think she did lose weight but gained it back. Her skin did turn yellow and she would be pail sometimes. I would watch her to make sure she was okay but she would be fine after that. After she recovered from that she was fine. She roamed with her chicken buddies outside and was still top dog in the flock. It just baffled me to why her feathers were never the same again

. Everyone who would come over would ask if she was a frizzle. She didn't get sick until she was 2 so she lived a total of around 4-4.5 years. I'm glad I found someone else who has had this happen (not saying I'm glad she is sick just happy I found someone to compare and try to find a diagnosis). How is she doing now?

More reasons not to cull her and give up! And yes from the pictures she looks like she has a lot more color. As long as she is happy and not in pain, give her a chance.

Yellow skin, scraggly feathers, fatigue...oh my! I too, find comfort in knowing this has happened to another hen as well. Coincidentally, my little hen is 2 1/2 years old. (I know it seems funny she doesn't have a name, but it's because I could never tell her and her sister apart, so we just refer to them as the Twins. I wonder what the heck it is? I am still going to try the Oxine, since it has been tested and proven effective against a variety of bacteria, fungi, and viruses, including E.coli, salmonella, parvovirus, etc. just to be safe. Thanks so much for your input!

What you are dong is working. ACV does some pretty remarkable things. Give her time to recover at her own pace. Sometimes some birds immune systems are compromised and affected more than another bird standing right next to them. It is probably mold related and might never happen again. Try to reduce bad mold levels in the coop. For her you might even consider going to sand if this is going to be reoccurring.

That's why I'm puzzled - it has been SO HOT & DRY here all June-Sept. (I'm talking upper 90's, lower 100's, record breaking heat and very arid). I have never seen/found mold anywhere in the coop, pen, my house or anywhere on the property for that matter.

She hasn't pooped much today and so far, it doesn't look like she is taking in much liquid. (Small, fairly dry droppings). I haven't personally seen her drink her water yet, but hoping she has/does/will. Thanks!
