I know there is a lady on here that made a chicken boot for a members chicken with bumblefoot from the same type of material, perhaps she could help you. If not, I know Walmart carries that type of fabric in the weight lifting/exercise section as sweat bands for your waist. Perhaps you could get some and make him a pair.... or the beer glass covers that keep them cool.......that stuff LOL

I opened it up again tonight. There was a slight smell this time but not real bad. More bubbles that I manipulated around and popped. I packed the wound with triple antibiotic and wrapped it with gauze and bandaides. He is picking at it a little but is mostly sleeping. He drank about 1/3 cup or water with electrolytes today but didnt eat anything. How long can they go without eating? I have given him all his favorite stuff and he has no interest at all. You might have to put food in his mouth. Warm canned dog food, or scrambled eggs are easy to get in their beak most times. He needs to keep up his strength to fight the infection. I would try to give him a shot of Pen G or some terrimycian in his water.

I have been giving him PennG as an injectible and also cephalexin mixed with clindamycin orally. Tomorrow I am going to get him some Baytril because that is supposed to be a better antibiotic. I hope that one of these antibiotics will help him! Terri O (ps) if he maes it I definitely will make or buy some boots for him!

You could get a powdered mix for birds that you mix with water and you could give it to her with a syringe down her throat if you're worried about her not eating. You could give her more water/electrolytes that way too. I'm sure her body could use more water.
(An avian specialist gave me some of the powdered stuff, but I think you could get it at a place like Petsmart.)

I agree with the baytril... he needs antibiotics. What you are doing now is great! He is so lucky to have you!

P.S. Terri,
I would have suggested Baytril this morning, but didn't think you could get any. That's a good one too. Is she pooping? I just wanted to be sure the antibiotics weren't just staying in her crop. You might massage her crop a couple times a day, to help stimulate it. In-between the times that you give her the antibiotic, offer her some plain yogurt too, so her digestive tract doesn't get all messed up.

I might try some Arrest! I have used that for baby goats and sheep. If I remember correctly there is a concentration for chickens too. I will check tomorrow. I force fed him some bits of canned cat food and a piece of macaroni and cheese. All he really wants to do right now is sleep. I guess I will let him be now for tonight. Terri O
