Dumpling, Light Brahma, and Teriyaki, Blue Australorp, who have just been given some fresh ground to scratch in, attempting to decide if a pine seedling is edible.

Pine needles are not only edible but also great for egg laying. I put a few twigs when they fell from my neighbors, my hens did peck off some.

I don't know if my ladies ever eat the green pine needles. They certainly dig up the ground where any seedlings are trying to grow (a good thing because loblolly pine seedlings are difficult weeds).
