pigeon question

I feel it is best to not house parlor rollers w/regular pigeons. They can not fly, so a low topped pen is fine. Give them room to walk, perches VERY low to floor.

I took them out of the other pigeons' pen. I had to bring them inside and give them a bath

they were pretty muddy! I now have them in a small cage until tomorrow, or whenever it stops raining, then I will make a raised pen for them to live in. How much room would they need? They are a 'pair', at least a male and female. I have pics uploading to photobucket right now, and when they are done I'll post the pics.

How often are you going to let them out? The more you let them out to exercise, the less room they need to be housed in. For a pair, I'd think a 1' X 3' pen would be fine. It doesn't need to be taller than about 10" tall.

Parlors are divided by the way they preforum .The parlor roller rolls on the ground they do have contests for them CALIF. is a big hot bed for them the longest roll is like 800 feet or more .The parlor tumbers when placed on the ground jump up and tumble one or two flips .When parlors first leave the nest they can fly like any other pigeon after a few months they ground themselves and can not fly. So when buying young you have to know the breeder is reputable . Loud noise and new things can set them off to rolling so it is best to have them seperate and in small pens 2 feet by 3 feet and one foot tall .They are good parents and very gentle breed not requireing much room.

So there are two different types? Rollers and tumblers? How can I tell which I have? I'm thinking they are probably the tumblers, since they only rolled once or twice.
I'm pretty suure they will be out a lot. They are my 4 y/o's pets, and we are going to make a pen low enough that he can get them out when he wants to. Of course he will be supervised, but he will also be taught how to handle them.

Ok there are many breeds of tumblers most have become show breeds only . Parlors are different they judge them on preformnce how far they roll period. Parlor tumblers jump up and flip one or two times .So if you put them on the ground and they roll on the ground they are rollers if they jump up and flip once or twice they are tumblers. Now if you see someone flying pigeons and they are flipping or rolling these are rollers not tumblers .Like i said most tumbler breeds are show birds only there are some that still fly them but tumblers are a large group of pigeons different sizes muffed legged clean legged and grouse legged some have crests short faced long faced and medium faced .So if you do not like one breed out there you can find one that will . Again parlors can fly when young but will ground themselves after a few months of age.

So how do I figure out which they are? It's not like I'll be showing them, but it would be nice to know "hey look what these pigeons can do" haha! I have another thread where I posted the pictures of them, one person said to 'nudge' them from behind, I guess to roll them forward, another said to clap my hands in front of them to get them to roll backwards?? So I'm a bit confused on that!! I'll find the other thread so you can see them.

Yes` alot of breeds of tumblers, have a friend who fly his russian tumblers, and yes they do a few flips in the air. Most tumbler are breed for show.

Also a breed of roller just for show, homers just for show.

At the NPA show do they now have a class for parlor tumblers???
