Pigeon Talk

When you get your new loft built you will probably be better keeping these ones for breeding and flying the younsters. These will homeset but it can vary with older birds. My first bird was a stray racer, it homeset in 3 days! It wouldn't return to its original loft and kept coming back to me! That's how I started! We call her boomer! So far I've only list three birds. One I released too early but I think it may have been got by something, the second had two rounds of youngsters and never returned from a loft fly and the last was a rescued feral that I released. How old are yours? My oldest is from 2016.
Wondering if Boomer has a mate yet?:)

This dove egg has an embryo in it. That means more dove babies. Thats good because the babies are cute and friendly but then I don't want to sell them.

My oldest is from 2015. The others three are from 2016 I believe I need to write down their band numbers on a spread sheet I'm am thinking these birds may not fly. Once I get young birds I may let them fly to their old loft. It's not too far and I know the owner. Fingers crossed though that they will rehome.

Went back to watch the video. Nice job! Some of us (myself included) are also somewhat new to raising pigeons, but there is also a wealth of knowledge here from the more experienced keepers.
If I’m seeing correctly, I think you have 3 blue bars and a blue checker?

And the ducks!! :love
Since the loft is so close to the duck pen, please flash over there on occasion too. I have lots of chickens, a few ducks, and now a small group of pigeons. The pigeons have quickly captured my heart, but I can’t imagine ever being without a few ducks. :)

You are correct. 3 blue bars and a checker. I'm learning who has what markings and a little about how they act. The blue bar with all grey wings has been the fastest to acclimate to us.

I'll be sure to show the ducks too. I love them. So much fun. We might let them breed. We have two drakes in there.

Some birds will resettle to a new loft especially if a settling cage that allows access to the loft roof is used for a significant period of time. I have heard it said that it has something to do with the 360 degree view of their environment. Understand that even if resettled such birds may one day decide to go back to their original home. I'd definitely raise several rounds of young from them before risking their loss, and would not fly them while they were on eggs or pumping young.

I took some measurements last night, and worked on a design to remodel one chicken coop/run for the new pigeons. Probably eventually move them all to that pen, so I can keep the smaller pen for bachelor roosters.

Thinking of doing something like these, 2x2 instead of vertical though. 4 boxes should be enough to start, huh?

Oh yeaah! Those are nice nest fronts. Are you ordering them ready-made or doing your own? Four should be fine. Forgot to tell you howmuch I enjoyed the last photo group. :love
