Pigeon Talk

That would be great. I'm new to pigeons and still have alot to learn. I think collectively there is an absolute wealth of knowledge here!

We are new to pigeons and BYC as well but seems to be a lot of good folks. I'm putting together a youtube channel with my kids to share what we learn. Got our first video up today.

What a great video! Your loft is similar to mine. It is better for roller pigeons but I've added a trap for them to return. Have you seen this post from @LamarshFish about homesetting? It's quite long but quite comprehensive.
How do I train my homing pigeons to come back to there coop

I'll have to take a look. Thank you for sharing. I put this loft together so I'd have a place to keep them safe. Working on drawing up plans for a new loft with a trap and sections for old and young birds. Got some ideas but need to get it all down on paper. We'll be posting videos as we go.

Actually, after clicking on the link I realized I had read it. My birds are much older so I'm not sure if they will rehome. One of them has done a 500 mile flight.
When you get your new loft built you will probably be better keeping these ones for breeding and flying the younsters. These will homeset but it can vary with older birds. My first bird was a stray racer, it homeset in 3 days! It wouldn't return to its original loft and kept coming back to me! That's how I started! We call her boomer! So far I've only list three birds. One I released too early but I think it may have been got by something, the second had two rounds of youngsters and never returned from a loft fly and the last was a rescued feral that I released. How old are yours? My oldest is from 2016.

Wow, 500 miles! In a race I presume?

Went back to watch the video. Nice job! Some of us (myself included) are also somewhat new to raising pigeons, but there is also a wealth of knowledge here from the more experienced keepers.
If I’m seeing correctly, I think you have 3 blue bars and a blue checker?

And the ducks!! :love
Since the loft is so close to the duck pen, please flash over there on occasion too. I have lots of chickens, a few ducks, and now a small group of pigeons. The pigeons have quickly captured my heart, but I can’t imagine ever being without a few ducks. :)
