Pigeon Talk

Awww what a doll! :love

Yes 1 has the feathered legs. And one is white and has a brown dot on its forehead. It’s hilarious.

So how many total?
The blue one could be a Blueette, or maybe Old German Owl, or American Owl?? I don’t know all the differences to be able to tell for sure. The ash red and black the others here would know better than me. I’m just learning, there are more pigeon varieties than chicken varieties!

Cool!
Sats are Satinettes. But there’s another variety that I think yours look more like, the ones with the feathered legs. I gotta look it up.
I googled satinettes and that looks just like one that I have.

We have 5 I’ll have to go back and look at them. I recall seeing purple, green, and grey but not blue.

Day 13 comparison:

Brick and Brewer, hatched 3/2, pic from today 3/15
Their blue looks much darker to me, and more crisp, but they don't look as heavily feathered yet. Of course, it was much colder when Bugsy hatched, so maybe hers grew faster?

I was thinking same as Backyard pigeons. Bugsy got all the extra nutrition since he was a single.:thumbsup

Probably because bugsy had all the food. But they're looking good!

I will probably have to as now I am down to only two cocks and one hen.
Probably a good IDEA to borrow a hen like you were considering before. This way you could start having small ones soon.
Not sure if it is possible for you, but your description of loft seemed small to me. Would you consider expanding it to make it larger. That way the pigeons would not be inclined to try and escape any chance possible.:idunno

I'd like it if it didn't come down to that but it will have to be an option if it comes down to it. There's only one vet in my area that'll take birds and the last time I went to them with a budgie they botched it up so bad I swore I'd never take another bird there again.
This pigeon is dear to me and I won't give up on her if I can get some sort of improvement out of her.
Have you thought about giving her a low dose of steroids? Not sure what the dosage would be.

Here are the pigeons we have. I have no idea if they are males or females either. Of course they flew into the mud when I wanted to take a picture.View attachment 1703019View attachment 1703020View attachment 1703021View attachment 1703022
Thay are so pretty! :love:love:love
Just read an article about an emotional support pidgeon named Mui. The bird has several media outlets....twitter, Facebook, etc. The interesting thing was how her owner goes on and on about what great house pets pidgeons can be. Reminds me of Olive.

Great story!! Thanks for sharing.. :highfive:

Gonna go check it out next...:D

I have good news! :D
After a family chat yesterday about my issues with keeping my birds... they have decided they will take over winter feeding and chores for me.. Im still going to drastically reduce the numbers but I won't have to sell out completely! :celebrate
