Pigeon Talk

I’ve gotten both of them to take some liquid from a syringe. All my plans for today have now turned to getting these 2 back to full strength. Brick is doing great. Brewer has take a few nibbles too

Good luck dear!:fl Are their crops empty? They look quite flat? I wonder if some thawed, warm peas would get some quick nutrition in them? I have the peas soaking in warm water so they are nice and wet on the outside as I place the pea in the back of the mouth and close beak. That's just for extra hydration.

I do have some peas,so I’ll give it a try

Ok I need advice.

One of Trip/Rocky’s babies died in the night. We got below freezing and Trip wasn’t sleeping on them the past couple nights. The bigger one survived. I have her inside now. About to see if she will take something from a syringe.
I dissolved a bit of feed, I don’t know if they are even eating on their own yet. I have some parakeet feed, chicken feed, but no KayTee baby bird feed. I can get some later, but at 2 weeks old, how much solid should they be eating now? Or still depending on momma milk?
Noooo.... :(
You know the saying “they aren’t dead until they are warm and dead”?? Well it’s a fact.
I just typed that last post, my hubby was holding the one squeaker, keeping it warm, I had laid the “dead” one in a brooder box under a heat lamp. Walked in there to check again, and I’ll be damned, it’s eyes were open!
He is holding them both, they are warming up. Took a little warm feed-water, and was pecking at hubby’s ring, so I put a few seeds in sight.

Yessss... :) That is brilliant. A call too close for comfort.
You either have a real small nephew or that pigeon is MASSIVE! There is definitely an irony about calling it a runt! It looks like they made some nice choices!

They look great. You're doing a good job. If you can keep them in with the parents somehow I'm sure they will be fine. If you keep them in and hand feed them you have a pair of olives!

@WVduckchick they look much better now that they're warm.

The boys are tearing apart an old coop that a tree fell on back during the Hurricane. They're going to use that wood on their lofts.

6 is small but he's no tiny thing. That Runt is about the size of a true sized Leghorn but with more meat on his bones.

I used to breed lavender orpingtons, and always said the roosters were turkey-sized chickens. So I guess you have a chicken-sized Pigeon! :D

I got 4 peas down each squeaker, and will keep working on them all day.

I also pulled the dead egg from under Clyde (he didn’t even object!) his baby is super tiny, omg!

Did an eggtopsy, and it kinda appears to have had a yolk sac infection. It’s more green than it should be, at least for chicks or ducks. @casportpony

Good news. :hugs Not sure how many is enough for them, they are so small. For comparison, I would try for 30 peas but the squeak was at least 2x the weight of yours. I think its best what you did giving a few at first. If they stay down let the crop be your guide. After a couple of times they should be eagerly flapping their wings for more.:)
