Pigeon Talk

They are 15 days today. I guess I could put the front that I made on the box where the nest was, but I’m thinking I’ll just keep them inside for a week or so, until it warms back up. We had 80F the other day, and it was 25F this morning!

The payoff for the work of hand feeding is super tame easy to handle birds! Another member has used a reptile heat pad under the nest bowl. That is amazing how you brought that baby back to life! You and hubby are angels!:thumbsup

You know the saying “they aren’t dead until they are warm and dead”?? Well it’s a fact.
I just typed that last post, my hubby was holding the one squeaker, keeping it warm, I had laid the “dead” one in a brooder box under a heat lamp. Walked in there to check again, and I’ll be damned, it’s eyes were open!
He is holding them both, they are warming up. Took a little warm feed-water, and was pecking at hubby’s ring, so I put a few seeds in sight.

 I did not know that! But it makes sense it could happen. How wonderful! You are going to be their favorite human I bet.

I still don’t think it’s out of the woods (Brewer, the smaller one), it’s definitely much weaker than Brick, the bigger one. But it is responding.
It will definitely be nice to have ones that trust me more than the adults do.

Edit, I had them backwards. Checked the leg bands and I had put the lower number on the bigger one, but it is now the smaller one. Which doesn’t sound good. But I still have hope!

I just weighed these babies. I had weighed Bugsy when she was 11 days old, and she weighed 132 grams. Today at 15 days, these babies only weigh 75 and 85 grams. I didn’t realize there was that much difference in the size of these. The parents are actually much bigger than Bugsy’s parents. So I definitely think that leans me toward keeping them inside for a week or two, at least.
At 24 days, Bugsy weighed 204 grams

Here they are!

The Runt has been named John Cena :lau:th:lau

12 is still working on names for his two.

That seems pretty small. Maybe they are using more calories in the cold. I would trust your instincts.

Those are some very handsome birds! The boys too!:D

Have you fed them yet?

I’ve gotten both of them to take some liquid from a syringe. All my plans for today have now turned to getting these 2 back to full strength. Brick is doing great. Brewer has take a few nibbles too
