Pigeon Talk

So on another thread I mentioned one of my hens was missing last night. Today I found out what happened to her. She was hit by a car over at the lumberyard, witnessed by one of the employees. They go there for the grit. They said the car was going very slow so she should have been able to get away, but I have seen my birds expecting cars to yield for them before.:barnie At least I know it wasn't a hawk.
RIP Maidu

I'm so sorry. She's beautiful. I'm assuming you have grit in your loft? I know their weird and think that the roads grit is better, but I'm just making sure.

Ok. Me pigeon is in the house to stay warm and keep blood flowing, which I read helps. She's in the bath now, enjoying watching me. It is slightly warm. Going to add calcium to drinking water, or would it be better to put straight down throat? Any other ideas?

Thank you and yes I provide 4 kinds: Versele-laga neo grit with everything in it, redstone grit, oyster shell and charcoal. I have told them over and over not to hang in the road but they go back anyway. I'm even concerned the road grit could be tainted.

Is it a liquid calcium supplement, like 23% ? If liquid I think in water but not sure....

Best I could get is tums... Chewable kind, should I do part of one straight down? Thank you so much!

I think that would be ok, it's used for chickens... @Pyxis , @WVduckchick ?
Good luck! I'll check for your update tomorrow.

Sorry, I'm not sure what the dose would be - I've actually never dealt with egg binding, so it's out of my area of experience.

I have a question, though. In good news, I put some hay in with the pigeons and the cream yellow bar hen is building a nest :D But so far it's not a really good nest, lol. Will she shore it up as she gets closer to laying? Or should I add some more hay myself?
