Pigeon Talk

So on another thread I mentioned one of my hens was missing last night. Today I found out what happened to her. She was hit by a car over at the lumberyard, witnessed by one of the employees. They go there for the grit. They said the car was going very slow so she should have been able to get away, but I have seen my birds expecting cars to yield for them before.:barnie At least I know it wasn't a hawk.
RIP Maidu

Sorry to hear about maidu. :hugsIts a wonder why they don't fly out the way sooner. The amount of near hits I've had with birds is crazy. I did have a pheasant hit my windscreen last year and smash it. There was no reason for it to fly across the road like that. :(
Dazzle and Dipsy
Not sure what that bump is on one’s head. Didn’t notice it until I looked at the pic, now momma is back on them.

Brick and Brewer got a little flight practice yesterday. They still won’t free fly, but my dogs make them nervous, I think. They will fly from my hand to the table, a good 4-5 feet.

And the ducklings, just because it’s so cute lol

Your ever-expanding flock is looking good! How many pigeons do you have now?

@backyard pigeons how is your pigeon today? Are you sure she is egg bound? The only time I have had to deal with an egg bound bird it was a chicken. She went downhill fast. I could shift the egg and she died within 36 hrs. Could you try giving her a soak in Epsom salts? Also you can get calcium tablets from most grocery stores that have a health care section. Just crush one up and mix it with a little water.

No, it's still pooping, but it's small and watery. But at least it isn't totally blocked. I did watch some you tube videos, and the surgery is something that I don't feel comfortable doing. Is there something else you were talking about?

Oh no, sorry, it wasn’t surgical. It showed how to help work the egg out with just massaging it. I’ll look when I get to work.
But it’s been a few days now, right? Is she any better?

Those two newest squeakers make 12. (+2 eggs laid last week) But I’m worried about the smaller one. As seems to be common, the larger one seems to be getting fed more. The smaller one looks a little weak. I plan to check the crop this evening and if it’s not full enough, I’ll give it some more.

I had the nest last year with three eggs in that hatched. There was one that was noticeably smaller than the rest. I tried to hand feed it a couple of times but it wasn't interested. Fortunately they all made it and the small one is Beau!

Thanks for checking in on my bird yall! So it been nearly 48 hours now, and it's acting the same. well I don't think it's egg bound. I don't know what it could be, but I think it's much better this morning. i can't feel the so called 'egg ' anymore. It will probably go out with the rest this afternoon. I have been giving her warm baths, and calcium. I think your right ccuk, she would be gone by now if she were egg bound. I guess my main reason I thought she was egg bound was that I was expecting a egg, and it was going to be her first one. But I think she's gonna make it, but I sure will miss a house pigeon!

That sounds like good news. Hopefully it may have just been a thing and she over it. :fl Very pretty though.

I have decided to call boomers younsters Prince and Beauty! Aptly named after my friends shire horses! I'm sure he will be pleased as punch to know that! They have had there first tentative steps outside today. They didn't fly but were on the landing platform until one of the adult males started being bossy so they rushed back inside!
