Pigeon Talk

Brick and Brewer are in the main loft today. They are doing pretty well, haven’t seen much picking going on. Brick is flying great, Brewer is still a little hesitant.
I may need to go ahead and permanently move them, as the smaller of Duff’s squeakers isn’t getting fed enough. I tubed him again this afternoon.

Way to go CCUK! Where do you want to max out at with pigeons?

Looking right on track bio! We're you hoping for bars, checks, or what? I think there so cute either way!

I've thought that compass lofts would be a fun name. But I would have to get @Pyxis permission first... She thought of it!

I got some oyster shell today. They love it!
Colors are fun but I'm fine with the standard blue bars. :D Just like their mom and dad. These two have the gold colored bands though, very pretty.

Brick and Brewer look great, they should be fine now,:fl How does that intersect with the little squeaker,...are you going to hand raise him in their old cage?

Your birds are beautiful. So cool that Loper turned out to be such a neat addition.

If they don’t start feeding the little one, I might have to pull it/them. The bigger one was out of the nest today, so it makes me worry more about the little one. I’m playing it by ear, and I could always bring them inside, but having the extra cage is nice.

I just came in from finding one of the babies out of the nest box and huddled in a corner underneath. It always makes me catch my breath until I see they aren't injured/pecked. Popped him back in - for now he'll probably stay after his scary experience. Dad was nearby, maybe protecting. :)

Questions:
  1. Best places to buy pigeons online? I'm having a hard time finding local pigeons that aren't ridiculously (IMO) expensive. My friend had a falconer come by her place to take care of her pigeon problem, so that's not an option for me anymore.
  2. Do all pigeons return home (not just homers) and at what age are they too old to learn to come back home?
  3. I'm assuming that homers would be best for dog training, but there are so many more kinds of pigeons than I was aware of that I'm not even sure how to tell homing pigeons from other types.
  4. Are there any good resources for pigeon info?
Quail are popular for dog training too.
