Pigeon Talk

Was it paired or with squabs?

I have no way of knowing immediately. I will have to do the process of elimination. With close to 40 birds and the balance of them snow white it may take awhile before I find out who was lost.
No more 1400hrs flights for a time plus I will keep them confined to the loft for a few days. I have been flying them a bit too regular as of late it was bound to happen. Hawks have enemies too they best be ware I can think of two one of them being crows.

Well they say those first eggs usually aren't good anyway. I think. The cream yellow bars were the ones you wanted to show?

I was actually hoping to show my silver hen and bronze kite male. They DID lay an egg, but apparently me adding a nest in afterwards for them has upset them because the hen never laid the second egg and they aren't caring for the first one either.

Not sure I was inside the loft. I open the trap and checked on eggs and squabs and came out to a spray of white feathers in the yard.
Sorry to hear that happened. Now that I'm down to just a breeding pair and their young I haven't let either of mine out in a month or so. I feel bad but I don't want to risk one or both of them getting killed since my last loss involved a Cooper's smacking a bird out of the air just a few feet from my head.
My game plan is to let my two keep breeding while I build a new larger loft then buy a few squeakers to get some new blood in and start flying them by midsummer.

Wahay! Friday and I've finished till Wednesday. Thought I'd have a couple of extra days off to catch up on some jobs. Nothing much exiting happening here. I just took a quick video of my lot having a bit of wing time. Weather's not great but they seem happy!
I've decided to call my loft Welbeck Loft. I quite like it!
:highfive: I like the name! And LOVE the birds in flight!:love
Speaking of hawks just lost a homer (hope it did not have eggs). Not 5 minutes ago.
:( :hugsIm so sorry!

This is a horrible video because I recorded the screen with my phone from the security camera replay. Heard the birds raising all kinds of ruckus, didn’t see anything by the time I got outside, but I think the hawk saw the pigeons flying around, swooped in thinking he was going to get one, landed on the roof for a few seconds, and took off.

That long tail screams "Cooper's" to me. Glad it didn't get a hold of any of your pigeons.
I see chickens outside too (I think), did he go after them?

2 chickens, yes they are always out. Some ducks were out too. They didn’t even pay attention to it. I think it was a young hawk. Wasn’t very big compared to others I’ve seen here, red tails and coopers. The chickens are bantams, but probably still too big for it, I guess.

Poor pigeons. That would make them sweat. Good job the mesh keeps them out.

 I watched a few times and I think the pigeons saw that hawk sitting nearby and started flying around like they do when they see a danger. It looks like the hawk then flew up to the roof.
