Pigeon Talk

I had a pigeon that had a broken leg. It was everso swollen and I had to cut the band off. He mostly held it up but did walk on it occasionally. I would recommend maybe putting her in a cage for a week or so, so she can't fly and leg her leg rest. @biophiliac recommended to me to use Arnica cream to help reduce swelling and syphytum pilules to help with healing the bone. If yours doesn't have a broken leg or toes just the Arnica cream applied liberally on the leg should give some relief. It may be its just twisted it landing.
Mine made a full recovery but his leg is still a little larger where the bone healed. He was top cock until one of the youngsters made a challenge!
It doesn't look broken and it isn't hugely swollen. Maybe just slightly swollen and warm at the hock(???). I have no idea what that joint is called on a bird. I should know that with all the birds I have. Maybe it's just sprained? I'll get some Arnica and give it a try. Thanks!

Does it have a band? It may have got caught on something, like wire, and struggled.

It's been a week since my peregrine incident so I decided to let my three adults out now that the squeakers are weaned.
Frodo, the victim of the attack, was exceptionally nervous but his parents took off and he eventually followed. I got probably 25 minutes out of the three of them as they flew and passed over the house every so often until a broad winged hawk passed by and spooked them. As I expected it didn't actually make a move on any of them and went on its way in the opposite direction. Unfortunately this was enough to alarm and scatter them and they all came back separately, each about an hour apart.
Fortunately the falcon or a Cooper's wasn't around because the larger and more conspicuous Buteo hawks don't really seem to go after the pigeons. I did unfortunately see the peregrine fly by just now but luckily this was after everyone came in and trapped safely.

@Pyxis hope you see some eggs soon. My Duff has been seen in the box a few times lately too. I still don’t know who laid the lone egg on the ground. Never saw another after it.

Trip/Rocky’s two young ones are doing ok... well one is doing great. The other isn’t getting fed much, but I’ve been checking it each night and if it’s crop isn’t full, I bring it inside and tube it. I hope it survives.

I think I’m taking a lazy day today to observe my birds. Have lots of young ones I’d like to identify genders. Ducks and chickens included. Lol

Happy birthday Natalie!
