Pigeon Talk

I would never have envisioned where I would be had boomer not decided to stay with me, they are so fascinating in there antics. I couldnt imagine not having them now!
Well,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, I know where you would be. Our paths would still cross on the music threads, but you would mostly be hanging out on the
"raising bunnies in UK " thread.:D A thread not likely for me run across:(

Hmm. Very interesting. I have never heard of personality being in the standard of a bird for show. Where did you learn this? I would love to look into the subject more.

I am going by this lady's blog, which I follow. She raises a loft of mixed breed pigeons and is selectively breeding for a friendly temperament for pet birds. She inspired me to get Olive.

Well right now im struggling to find an npip breeder :( no one on CL is certified and i almost am so idk :( thank goodness he isnt ready to jump on it yet but he is utterly fascinated.

With this as one important condition, I am assuming that you would be getting ONLY fancy breeds , and containing them inside an Aviary. Also not loft flying them ether, (most pigeons can be loft flied) because of the danger of them contracting the UNWANTED DANGEROUS COOTIES.
Am I correct in my thinking?:idunno
I'm not knowledgeable on the NPIP rules, and regulations:caf

It's a bit strange looking back that I started on byc having problems with an egg eating chicken but now I have actually spent more time over here talking about pigeons! No good music today though its just the same old tracks on repeat on the radio! And did we ever figure out how many apple seeds it would take to actually poison someone? :lau

Most of my birds are bred for showing.
Love those horseman:loveGood luck will them and the other 2 cuties.

Well I just got the call I've been waiting for....the stray I released on Saturday finally made it home some time today :yaalbeit a little late! He was grateful for me looking after her and letting her rest. He reckons there may be a chance she may stop over again as she knows where to get a quick bite to eat! I'm gonna start charging rent for these pidgies treating me like a B&B :lau
I have also found a breeder for the archangels. Unfortunately he is in Bristol which is the other side of the country. I know England is small but I still don't fancy a 200 mile drive each way to pick them up! He wants £80 for a cock and a hen, these are show quality with all the vaccinations and paperwork. And it's only £40 to get them shipped to me! I couldn't drive it for that! He is going to hold them for me which is great.
We are going to the auction with the bunnies tomorrow so I'll get an idea of the exact space I've got to work with. I'm still trying to decide the best layout for it.
Great news! You have to post more pics. Shipping sounds cheap, the cost just doubled over here.:(

@CCUK , great update.
X2.

Modenas are supposed to show a feisty personality I believe...

Ramsey loft has a YT channel as well.

Npip regs allow for free ranging in chickens so id assume they could be flown. Loft flying is in the yard and release flying is from a distance? Idk if distances are allowable but ill ask the vet. I bet the yard is alright though i will be sure before its done. We thought fancy breeds because it was my understanding that unless theyve spent their life with us, theyre not going to come home, theyll go to home before this home?

@mixedUPturk If you wanted homers you would get un-flown squeakers to have them accept your loft as home. Youngsters 4-8 weeks old that have never been allowed outside of their loft.:)

Good info! Its really all up to the DH. I am sticking to my farm, he wants to play w pet things then i wont stop him n ill feed em but hes gonna make the decisions. Ill make the rules ;) the rules will be based on what you guys and the vet say so guide me properly before i lay down the law hehe
