Pigeon Talk

I haven’t put my toes in here except to continue reading through all the pages, I’m on 203 still. But I wanted to pop in to say hi for the most part.?

I’m so new to pigeons I keep hoping I’m doing things right... the two I have seem to be doing well so far. I noticed one is sounding a little nasally/deeper in sound when I go about my business in the cage but I’m unsure as to why ??

Edit: I had the thought it could be maturing as it does seem older but I’m still worried it’s not that

Very cute.

A suggestion, if I may. Use a handsaw to notch the ends of the board they're sitting on so it can fit through the wire and lay it the other way with the wide part facing up and down so they can get a better grip/lay down on it.
I can alter it later after work this evening so it’s better placed for them. I was meaning to change it out and had a good idea to screw a few short perches around inside using a piece of plywood on the outside and screw the perches to the plywood to hold them up.
Or put two and nail a thin flat board on top for a wide shelf. Are these indoor birds?
They are “indoor” (living in our front porch) for the time being until I get their little coop made up in the main coop. Then they will live out there and free fly during the day once the one is fully healed

A single pair of birds may be eaten by hawks pretty fast. Their protection when flying is their flock - these will be more vulnerable due to their caged upbringing.

They do make nice house pets.

I can’t keep pigeons in the house, my cat would not give them a moment of peace and closing her out of rooms isn’t an option either. She will nonstop scream at the closed door even if you are in another room..

I haven’t seen hawks flying in my direct area and the birds have good cover from them as well with the trees right next to the coop. They will be locked in a small flight cage any time I see flying predators around the area.. I can’t plan on getting more pigeons at the time. It could happen in the future (read spring) if I happen upon some needing a home.

I never intended to fully keep them as close pets but that’s what it’s turning into so maybe I’ll happen upon some more birds needing a home
