Hello @cleoandtheflock congratulations on deciding to get pigeons! Frill backs are a good choice as exhibition birds tend to be easier to handle. I have never had them but @Pyxis had some but she sold them. Craigslist is a good place to try to find some locally and I think @backyard pigeons knows a site that sell for auction. If you make a walk in avairy then you can make a double entry system. It is effectively two doors. You open one and enter, close it behind you, then open the next one into the avairy. On mine I only have one door but it is only 5' high so there is less chance of anyone getting past me! You can keep pigeons @ a 1:1 ratio. They pair for life, mostly, but sometimes one male can be a bit of a lothario and pair with more than one female! It can get a bit weird watching pigeon pairings but it's nothing like chickens. Males can live together quite peacefully but try to be even with the amount of females to males. They need to be fed a good pigeon mix that contains different seeds, beans and peas. I believe there is a company called Foys that do alot of different feeds and loft supplies for pigeons.Hello y’all! I’m getting pigeons in the spring and have a few questions.
I was thinking of getting frillbacks does anyone have or know about these? There is a frillback breeder here in GA.
If I were to walk into the pigeon aviary and a pigeon got out the door what should I do?
What should my female to male ratio be? I’m getting around 4 or 5.
What should I feed them? I have read about a lot of different things to feed!
Some of my questions are probably obvious![]()
