Pigeon Talk

It was very hard to get photos and I didnt have an extra set of hands but I figured out that today the leg was slipping out less and that the main issue was the bone below the ankle and before the toes had too much of a bend to it. I was able to make a splint using a toothpick to straighten that bit out (where the band would be) and already the squab seems to be able to position its feet flat underneath itself and shuffle. I tried and tried to make the shackles using the adhesive bandage and a hair tie but its little legs are just too small at the moment. I'm going to keep a close eye on it as it grows and continue to try to fix it but the splay is very slight and not like anything else I saw online.

This is interesting. The bent spot is not swollen or red? Not broken, correct?

Not red or swollen, it just seemed soft and somewhat rubbery.
It's the 32 bone, instead of being straight it had a gentle but noticeable curve downwards

Can you draw the shape of the curve over the 32 bone?:)
Are you saying the bottom of the curve sags downwards like a shallow bowl? … or the ends of the 32 bone curve downward, like an upside-down bowl?
.
I think you did right by splinting it.

Like an upside down bowl. The green part is the bent bone I'm referring to while the blue is what's normal. The bone was flexible still so I was able to straighten it before taping the splint.

This is something I've not heard of before. I wonder if you might get a better idea what it is by posting in the Emergencies/diseases/injuries and cures. forum. The educators there have seen a lot.

@sourland @Hokum Coco @barn206 any thoughts?

I still think the splint you put on is a good move and I hope it will become normal bone soon. :)

Callus is soft and rubbery and forms first in the healing of a broken bone, then turns to solid bone. However in birds that young the foot bones are still soft and rubbery and a fracture in the bone you marked seems unlikely.
