Pigeon Talk

Any tips for getting faster recall out of my birds?
LESS FOOD. It may sound harsh, but pigeons need very little food. How much are you giving them? My birds get fed once a day as much as they can eat for 5-6 minutes. A lot of people feed 2× a day for 20 minutes each. I think that is to much. My birds, in my opinion are very healthy and the perfect weight. Morning or evening, rain or shine, my birds come in when called. I often have that 'one' that won't come. Guess what. He's the first one in the next day! :D

Do you want them to fly longer than 10 minutes? If so, feed less, and call when they are still in the air. you don't want to wait to call till they land.... this trains them that when they are hungry they land, and you feed. I always call my bird out of the air. with this method, I have my birds in the air, without landing for 2-3 hours on a clear, windy day. My goal is to have them in the air for 5 hours at a time.
I never fly mine in a morning, mostly because this is when most other people release there pigeons
what a wonderful place to live! Too bad there aren't that many fancier around here... Do you see many birds flying early in the morning?

@Pyxis here's the fairy egg. It is the small white object in the center.

Thanks for the advice all. I only feed them once a day every morning. There's five and I feed them about half of a regular sized can, its always gone within 5 or 6 minutes and if not I take the rest away. Should I try feeding them even less the day before?
Its been very warm this week so I gave them about half of what they'd normally get this morning as I plan to fly them tomorrow.

They've actually been pretty good about staying off the roof when I want them in the air. What used to happen was I'd scare them off and they'd land in the trees but now they take to the air every time. The only time they really linger on the roof is when I'm trying to call them into the loft.

Maybe, on the mornings you plan to fly, don't feed them at all, then let them fly for a while and feed them when they come in. Give them a good reason to come in.
