Pigeon Talk

I think the 3rd egg has pipped. I popped it under another pair that has been sitting and took their eggs. I just feel it will have a better chance if it doesn't have to compete with 2 older sibs. The prospective foster parents are one of my racing homer cocks and Loper(feral). They were sitting ontheir second round of fakes so let's hope they are ready to produce some crop milk!:fl

Hey all it’s been a while! I’ve missed a lot it seems.. Loved all the photos that have been posted and have read through the posts, sending love and excitement to all the new/soon to hatch squabs 🥰

@Qwerty3159 I hope your birds show up, I’ve got my fingers crossed for their safe return 💕

For my pigeon news, Thing 1 & 2 finally got the boot into their 99% finished loft and attached aviary!

One side of the bedding is sand the other side is pine sawdust.

Until the ground thaws so I can move and make the proper modifications to the little coop below plus the chain link pen, they get this pretty large predator proof “little” aviary. It’s dimensions are roughly 3’x2’x5’ (at the point) and the bottom can be unscrewed for easy removal for cleaning or maintenance purposes. I’m going to add a few more things to the loft part for entertainment purposes and just to add a little bit of personality to their loft!

Still have fingers crossed for you and the birds Qwerty!

My recent hatched pair is doing good so far. Still waiting for the next 2 pairs. :p

Took a few pics at feeding time today.
Please Excuse the mess. The maid has been on strike, but I think she is coming back soon.

What beautiful birds you have!! Your birds are Satinettes correct? I love their wing patterns 😍

3 babies! W&S finally figured out parenting and hatched 2 chicks! Unfortunately Cannoli and Crumpet did not quite comprehend their own chick and abandoned it to die. Luckily I came home just in time to save it, and swapped it out whith W&S 2 day old glutton to convince them to feed it, and let Wallace and soup raise the new born whith their 2nd chick who's similar in size. Everyone's now being fed and sat on so hopefully they all do great!

Thank you! :love
I do believe mine are all Satinettes, Some call them more generally “Classic Old Frills” to cover all the color varieties. I have one Bluette, with the solid blue wings, which some still call a Satinette, and some consider them different if they aren’t laced.

:wee Awesome. Hope they keep up the good work.

So since I finally got my duck pen secured back in (after leaves and snow collapsed my overhead netting) I decided to let the pigeons out for some fun.

Nothing too exciting on the video, just kind of an example of how they fly and mostly stay on the ground. There are 2 bantam cochin roosters running loose in there, neither the pigeons nor the roosters seemed to mind being around each other.

And in other news, I noticed the Bugsy/Skye/Brick trio had shoved an egg away from the nest, and she wasn't sitting on it. When I picked it up, it had a crack in it, like another bird had pecked it. I took it inside to candle, and it is still alive! I covered the hole with paper medical tape and stuck it in the incubator with my other eggs. I'll give it back to the pigeons when it internally pips. I'd say its got another 4-6 days to go.

Check it out between duck and geese eggs. :lau

Omg, I just went to mist and turn the other eggs, and the pigeon egg is pipped! I noticed the internal when I first candled, but then could see a tiny spot on the shell, right along the edge of my tape. I removed the tape and it’s definitely a pip, so I stuck it back under whichever hen is on the other egg. Pray for the best! :fl
