Your concern is
They don't return because of taste of FREEDOM,,,,,
They don't return for the other obvious reason,,,,,,,
I do not know much about Satinette Pigeon behavior, but assume they could be loft flied.
I had White Homers, that were hatched in my loft,,,,, that did this on their FIRST release,,,and then this,,,
,,,,,,,, and never seen again..
In hindsight,,, I know I did not properly homeset them.
Funny thing happened over the weekend. DW and I were traveling in car. About 2 miles from home is a place where a LARGE flock (300+) of ferals hangs out. They all took flight as we were passing. We both noticed, there were a few white ones among the group. DW,,,,,, automatically said,,, OH,, THOSE MUST BE THE ONES THAT SPLIT FROM YOU![]()
I do believe mine are homeset and would return if I let them out. I'd have to lock my cats in the house though, as they enjoy sitting at the pigeon pen, "admiring" the pigeons. I do believe they would kill one, if it landed on the ground.
But I'm also in the process of re-doing my duck pen, which they will again have access to. So I think its a large enough area to give them the free-fly feeling. Or at least it will be a test space for me to consider the possibility of free-flight.
That's funny about the white flock.
