Pigeon Talk

Cool! It's never a bad idea to introduce some new blood to the family. Especially with you starting with one pair.

Do you plan to fly them? It's super cool to watch!
That's my biggest problem right now. I want to fly them, but the friends I got them from said that if they were to return "home" they would probably go to the loft where they were hatched. But another person told me that after being kept in a new loft only a couple weeks they will return to that one, if hungry. I'm a little confused, advice?

Sorry I missed it, but do you have homers? If so, they'll likely return to their old loft unless you purchased them when they're young. Once they homeset to a loft, they might never accept a new loft as "home". If you have a different breed without homing instinct it's very easy to reset them to a new loft.

And if you do have homers you can breed them and their offspring will be set to your loft ;)

They are Rollers. One is 1 year old and the other is 2.

Here is my advice.

breed two batches of young from your current birds. That way you will have 4 young rollers to start flying. Begin flying them, but before you do, he sure that they have gone thru the trap door a bunch, as well as seen all the sourrounding. Move them all around the yard for a week prio r to the first flight. Fly the young ones, and once they are flying good, allow the parents to fly. If you lose one of your birds now, you lose a pair. so be careful, and never fly a bird you can't afford to lose. Be sure that they k ow how to get thru the trap of however they will get inside the loft.

I would guess your birds now are homeset, but it's risky since you only have two birds. So wait for them to breed a few rounds. :)

I'm a little worried about baby Pidgy. His parents are still feeding him and his crop and nice and full, but as of today they are only intermittently sitting on him. He's still mostly naked and his feathers are only just starting to come in. Will this be okay or should I pull him?

I'm not sure what to suggest. Are they sitting on him now- could it be they were taking breaks during the day? I think he'd be fine being sat on intermittenly throughout the day but maybe not being exposed all night.

They have been off and on. When I last checked about a half hour before posting, they were not on him.

I know that Bio will sometimes "babysit" and take them inside during the night and return them in the morning and the parents don't mind. Not sure how yours would react. I'd say if your judgement says its too cold to bring it inside.
Or, is it possible to put one of the parents on the nest (bring a flashlight so they can see) and get them to settle in for the night with the baby?
