Pigeon Talk

Ive only had it in 1 bird. It may be best if you would check through the crop?

Certainly also check the mouth and throat. Below is a mention of the canker infection to the navel in squabs -quoting and copied from another forum..

she could have canker on top of that or if she is not being fed enough she could show signs of it, if a keeper is worried about canker then treating the pair before breeding is wise I suppose, but I am the type to not medicate unless I know from more symptoms and appearance in the throat or nose. navel can happen if the pair are scuffing off canker cells while feeding the milk and it runs down into the bottom of the nest and gets in the navel. beside the droppings why do you think it's canker?

I check at about 4 day old. You gently hold them and open their mouth and if you see "cheese" it has canker. If it does treat accordingly.

@biophiliac @cavemanrich @CCUK what do yall do?
Never encountered canker, therefore I did not even know of it before these pigeon forums.:idunno
I did not research it now so do not know what results if not treated.:hmm

Thankfully I haven't had to deal with canker in my pigeons or chickens. The 4in1 treats for canker but I'm not sure if it would work on squabs. I guess the only way they could get it would be from the parents so would treating the parents treat the squabs?

I’m still unsure whether my red roller Java is male or female. I had been assuming (hoping) male. This evening, I watched Clyde either fighting or courting Java. I couldn’t tell which! If it were female, would Clyde try mating her? With Bonnie having just hatched his babies? Or were they more likely sparring/fighting/playing? The rollers stay out of the house where Bonnie is with the babies. Mostly on the ground or ramps, etc, I have never seen them mate, although I thought he was trying once. Now I’m leaning more toward female.
Does the green on the chest mean anything?
I am going to look into DNA testing.
Thoughts anyone?
