Pigeon Talk

Seem you are loosing others than those from your release??? am I correct. You hit the nail on the head Did you keep track which particular ones you released. And which of those returned ? No I did not to be honest. It becomes nearly impossible to do this when the vast majority of your flock is snow white and you do not have numbered bands on your birds. I must confess..

Fresh water twice a day, still using plastic gallon milk jugs with holes in two sides.:)

Are you a coffee drinker? I use the plastic coffee containers with 3 sections cut out. Easy to take the lid off and refill with a pitcher I carry outside with me.

I found a few basic color charts today.

@Pyxis hows the frillback doing?

Well he's still tilted. But he doesn't seem bothered by it. He eats, drinks, flaps around, etc. Doesn't seem in pain. I'd put him down if he seemed to be in discomfort, but he doesn't.

Anyway, since this happened I'm pretty sure he's not going to breed ever. So I've bought these guys:

A silver hen, and the cock is what's called bronze kite:

Both this year's hatch, the silver is a hen and the male is a cock :) Time got away from the breeder so the silver hen didn't get banded, but that's okay with me.

This whole ordeal with this pigeon has shown me how smart they are. When I first got him, he was skittish and panicked if I tried to get too close to him. Now, he seems to know I've been helping him. He doesn't move at all when I open the door to reach in to refresh food and water, and he even lets me pet him. I can't say the same thing happens when you nurse an ailing chicken or duck.

Wow those are gorgeous!
Bummer on the other boy. Will you just keep him and see what happens eventually?
