Pigeon Talk

So last night, the parents were back on the upper roost. We weren’t getting quite as cold, stayed above freezing, so I chanced just laying a small towel over half of the nest, kinda on Bugsy’s back, but not totally covering the whole bowl. This morning she is on top of the towel, chirping up a storm! Bonnie was standing just out of the bowl, a few inches away. I assume she is trying to coax her out of the bowl??

Has she fed Bugsy? If she's still feeding her then I'd guess she will be fine. My younsters started getting in and out of the nest at about this time but never went far from it. Also Bugsy may be getting too big for Bonnie or Clyde to cover. I noticed mine without either parent on them by now but it wasn't the middle of winter!

She was feeding her yesterday, crop was full at dark. It’s still early morning now.
The previous night when I put Bonnie in the nest, she just laid beside her, so yes, Bugsy is much too big to get fully under her. They leave her alone much of the day, from what I’ve been able to see. I expect she will be up and moving about very soon.
The winter cold still concerns me, and being a lone squab, but she seems to be doing great.

That's exactly how I placed the cloth over Doo's bowl when hand raising,... with the same result.:gig I really did expect her to be fine at that stage of development.
Btw, the he?she? with baby pigeons when gender is unk was bugging me so I located a new gender neutral term - hir, hirs and hirself, from wikipedia. So if I use it - don't get confused.:lau
