Pigeon Talk

Altricial. Not artificial :)
Oh ya. . I kinda forgot the way the parents feed their young. :hmm
Yeah. . I probably don't want to hand raise them.
And yes I definitely want to look for Indian fantails.
I don't like the ones that hold their heads all cocked back and their chests really high :p
It just looks weird.

I do bet you could add some roosts inside your duck Palace and they’d be quite happy in there!
They might fight for the pool though. :gig
My biggest concern is if they would terrorise the ducks.
Or if the ducks would terrorise them :lau
I talked to a guy at the swap that had calls and pigeons and he said they got along just fine. . but I don't think he housed them together.

80$ each
Those are beautiful though.
I wonder if one of the sources on cl would ship hatching eggs. I could hatch some in my incubator couldn't I?
Almost sure the ad says pair for $80. Yes the seller would know to give you a male/female pair. A pigeon fancier is able to tell genders in his pigeons. After a while of keeping pigeons, you would also be able to recognize the difference.:thumbsup
You do not want to go the route of getting eggs and incubating them . Besides the trouble/effort/work of raising the new hatched, the expen$e, of the things associated to feed and raise them to 4 weeks. At 4 weeks, they are about to be weaned.
Way less pain to get the reddii :gig made, and the long drive associated with getting them.

How do you tell if your getting a male and a female?
I'm assuming it's ok to just keep a pair right?
If I ended up with 2 males or 2 females would that be ok? Of course I wouldn't have babies then I know that much. .:gig

But are they happy as long as they have company or does it have to be a male/female pair?
Sorry for all the questions. I'm in the I'm totally getting serious mode about this :lau

Very clever can you show a picture of it(or a sketch)?
I find down loading and transfer picture from my camera to the computer a bit of a pain. This trap is similar to mine and operates along the same line although not identical. Pigeons on my trap can only gain access on one long side of the trap. However they can get in on that side from almost any vantage point.

I can never find those cages that cheap around here. Even on CL, the little ones sell for at least $15. Maybe I need to look again though.

@Misfits Farm 92 how’s your injured bird doing?
The pigeon is calmer now so I got a good look at the wound. The wound is right above the pigeons foot. The wound is already scabbed over I'm just wondering if the leg band will bother it. I sprayed poultry wound spray on it.

Ya, your right for sure. Hand rearing would be a pain. I wasn't thinking straight :gig
