I really don't want to criticize the Jacobins, Holms has some stunners! They're just not my prference. Their owners usually protect them from the consequences of poor vision by not free flying them. Those poor beak-less birds are another story!

I don't, as a rule, like show animals of any persuasion. They are the most inbred, exaggerated animals.

As someone who breeds show poultry, ouch Though the chickens I show are selected for traits that ensure soundness and production, or in the case of my bantams, a certain fierce look, but it's not detrimental to the birds. And chickens as a rule aren't as inbred as dogs, etc. There's no such thing as a pedigree in the chicken world. You can cross in whatever you want, and as long as you get it back looking like the Standard, then it's considered whatever breed it looks like, even if four generations ago its ancestors were technically mutts.

This is one of my show brahmas. Their traits were selected to make them extremely cold hardy, dual purpose birds that are good for both eggs and meat. The cold up here doesn't bother them a lick, thanks to this.

There are of course some breeds that do have their problems, like Japanese bantams with the creeper gene, or crested ducks. I would never breed those.

But to each their own on what they like and don’t like. I personally don’t see having a permanent house chicken, duck, goose, or pigeon, but I will bring them inside when necessary. They weren’t bred to be indoor birds. I also don’t think one should keep a flock animal alone, but folks do it all the time, so that’s just my opinion.

I didn’t get any new videos of Java and Shadow today, they clammed up every time I got the camera out
I did see them mate, so hopefully her eggs will be fertile when she lays again.

And I never noticed my Satinettes having any trouble feeding their squab. I could see how the shortened beak could be a problem, but my first pair did fine. We’ll see how Trip and Rocky do in about a week!!

Started working on feeders for our new loft we plan on building
